Manteca teen Vincent “The Beast” Avina continues to shine in the amateur boxing ranks.

One year after claiming a Golden Gloves Junior Nationals belt, the 16-year-old returned home from Independence, Mo. with another strap. Following a first-round bye, he won all three of his bouts to conquer the 15-16-year-old, 119-pound Junior Open division in the 17th annual Ringside World Championships at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

His path to the title began with a win over Nebraska-based Jeremiah Perales. He then vanquished Washington’s Deric Davis before defeating Puerto Rican Carlos Lopez in the finals.
