The East Union High Lancers had some great performances at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III girls’ golf tournament in Sacramento.
As a team, it was just enough to push them forward to next week’s Masters set once again for The Reserve at Spanos Park.
Brooke Riley is no stranger to this 18-hole course in Stockton, having qualified in recent years based on her individual performances.
“I think Brooke can medal in the Masters,” said East Union coach Brian Goulart of his ace who fired a four-under-par 68 at the Bing Maloney Golf Course.
He added: “She could play better (at Spanos) knowing that her whole team is there.”
In the Divisional, Emilee Hoffman of first-place finisher Vista Del Lago claimed medalist honor following her impressive score of 65.
Vista Del Lago edged out the Lancers, 413-415, with the entire squad shooting under 100.
Coming up two-strokes shy for the top spot was a bit disappointing for Goulart and company. At the same time, they were thrilled at some individual efforts.
Sophomore Natalie Cowan, for starters, shot a personal-best 84 as did fellow sophomore Allie Tajii, who along with senior Brittany Conijn fired an 85.
Rebecca Leonard carded a 93.
“The course was set up for (posting) good numbers,” Goulart noted.
Three individuals will also move to the Masters – Beah Cruz (73) of Christian Brothers, and Monique Peterson (75) and Amelia Hicks (75), both of Inderkum.
Kimball (475) and Sierra (500) took part in the Division III event.
The Timberwolves were led by their No. 1 player McKenna Doyle (86) and No. 2 Kayla Wilson (96). The Jaguars’ top performers were Patricia Fabila (88), Maya Crooms (89) and Sophie Whaite (93).
Other teams included Christian Brothers (434), Inderkum (479) and Pioneer (591).
