The Ripon Royals rode the hot hand of Bo Brayton while tallying nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings Sunday on the way to an 11-4 win over the Manteca Braves in opening-round action of the District 67 Minor League Tournament of Champions at Lincoln Park.

Brayton took the mound with two outs in the second inning and went the rest of the way, posting eight strikeouts against two hits, three walks and a run. He struck out the side in the fifth and tallied two more in the sixth wrapped around a line drive he fielded for the second out of the sixth.

Lucas Durao (two runs) added the exclamation point for the Royals when he led off the fifth with an inside-the-park home run.

In the fourth inning Brayton (two runs, two RBI) posted a two-RBI single, scoring Carlos Blanco (two runs) and Casen Anderson (run, RBI) with Gavin Cloward (two RBI) knocking in Brayton and Camden Carrick plating Drew Mouw.

In the Ripon fifth, Jax Vardson knocked in Blanco and Jake Brown on a triple, Durao scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Jake Brown, and Verdson came in on Casen Anderson’s single. Brayton led off the game with a walk followed by a pair of stolen bases and scored on a Brayton groundout for a 1-0 Royals lead in the first inning.

Manteca loaded the bases in the first when Cash Junquero singled, Grant Sprecksel walked and David Venegas reached on a fielder’s choice. The three came in on a triple by Gabe Torres (triple, run) for a 3-1 Braves lead. Torres led off the fifth with a double and scored on a single by Eddie Torres.
