Ripon drubs Lathrop in Major all-star opener

 Ripon blasted six doubles in an eight-run third inning Saturday to catapult the team to a 16-0 three-inning mercy win over Lathrop to open the District 67 Major Division All-Star Tournament on the Triple-A field at Northgate.

Hudson Rushing (2 for 3, three RBI, two doubles, two runs), Jesse Vega (2 for 2, two RBI, double, run), Cal De Bruin (2 for 2, two RBI, double, three runs), Bronson Dietrich (double, run) and Robbie Nieweg (2 for 2, two doubles, two runs) each doubled in the inning. Benji Sybesma (2 for 3, RBI, run) and Connor Paris (2 for 3, RBI, double, run) each added an RBI single in the inning.

Rushing and Paris doubled in the first inning while leadoff batter Gio Sandoval (2 for 3, two RBI, double, three runs) Nieweg doubled in the second inning. De Bruin and Vega had back-to-back RBI singles in the second inning.

Bronson Dietrich no-hit Lathrop for the first two innings, tallying five of his six outs via strikeout.

Lathrop posted three base runners — DeMarcos Barajas on an error in the first inning and in the third inning Hemmi Sadhra reached on an error and Colin Calkins walked.

There will be a rematch of the District 67 Tournament of Champions championship today when Ripon squares off with Northgate on the major field at 5:30 p.m. Northgate won the TOC championship in extra innings.
