STOCKTON – The reign of defending champion Northgate came to an unceremonious and abrupt end Saturday, as Patterson pounded Northgate for 14 runs in the second inning and ended the game after four innings via the mercy rule with a 19-0 shutout in the championship game of the District 67 Juniors All-Star tournament at Paul Weston Park.

Ryan Medina gave Northgate some early hope when he led off the bottom of the first with a single. His single and Santino Arranaga’s two-out double in the third were two of only three balls Northgate got out of the infield.

Patterson pitcher Mitchell Carter kept Northgate on its heals all day. He retired 11 of the 14 batters he faced, striking out four while allowing two hits, hitting one batter and walking none.

Patterson rapped out 11 hits in the second inning. Andrew Garcia (three for four, five RBI, run) put up a pair of two-RBI singles, Rafael Arroyo (3 for 4, three RBI, double, three runs) had a two-RBI and an RBI single, and Owen McGuire, Jason Thomas and Orlando Garcia each had an RBI single. In a five-run fourth Fabian Martinez (2 for 2, four RBI, double, three runs) legged out a bases-clearing double.

Patterson now moves on as the District 67 representative in the Section 6 tournament in Tracy on a date to be determined.
