TRACY — Northgate left-handed fire-baller Carson Beck needed little support Friday, pitching four innings and striking out 12 – including eight strikeouts in a row at one point – to lead an 8-0 win over Tracy American in the semifinal of the Section 8 Little League All-Star Tournament at Legacy Fields.
Beck gave up two hits with no walks and was relieved by Aiden Howe, who pitched the final two innings and struck out two against two hits. With Turlock American runners on first and second in the top of the sixth with one out, Carlos Naranjo fielded a line drive at second and flipped the ball to shortstop Jackson Frisk covering second for a game-ending double play.
Beck (2 for 3, home run, three RBI) provided the exclamation point on the night with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, scoring Alius Lopez (2 for 3, RBI, two runs).
Northgate took a 3-0 first-inning lead and never looked back. Howe (2 for 3, run) and Nolan Mendes (two runs) laced back-to-back one-out singles. Howe came in on a single by Lopez with Mendes and Lopez coming in on a two-out single by Eli Jiminez (2 for 3, two RBI, run).
Beck singled in Mendes in the third inning and in the fourth after reaching on an error Jiminez came around to score on a wild pitch. Later in the fourth, Nuranjo hit a sacrifice fly to score Graham Allen.
Turlock will play either Amador East or Sunset this morning at 9, and the winner advances to the championship round Sunday at 9 a.m. against Northgate.
