An historic run ended for Northgate Little League on Tuesday.
The 10-12-year-old all-stars lost to Napa American 4-2 in the consolation quarterfinal round of the Northern California Major Division State Championship at Lions Town & Country Park in Madera.
Napa American duels with San Mateo American tonight for a spot in the final round. Land Park Pacific of Sacramento awaits the winner.
Northgate dropped two of its three contests after a first-round bye, opening with a loss to Land Park Pacific on Sunday. The District 67 and Section 6 champion then held off Quito-Saratoga of Los Gatos, 6-5.
Vinny Diaz drilled a two-run homer in the third inning as Northgate rolled to a 6-1 lead. Nolan Mendes aided the attack with a triple, finishing 2 for 2.
Winning pitcher Aidan Howe threw 3 2/3 innings, striking out six against four hits and no walks. Alius Lopez and Diaz pitched in relief and preserved the lead.
On Tuesday, Napa American jumped ahead of Northgate 3-0 after two innings. Jack Benedetti gave Northgate’s attack life with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning.
Mendes got the start for Northgate, striking out five while giving up four runs on five hits and five walks over 3 1/3 innings.
