Northgate 12U all-stars edge Ripon in extra innings

TRACY — Jack Benedetti skipped home on a seventh-inning wild pitch Thursday to give Northgate an 11-10 extra-inning walk-off win over Ripon in opening-round action of the District 67 12-U All-Star tournament at Tracy Softball Complex.

Benedetti (two RBI, home run, two runs) reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the seventh. He stole second, advanced to third on a single by Jackson Frisk (2 for 4) which led to him coming home on the wild pitch to end the game.

Benedetti’s home run in the fifth plated Eli Jimenez (2 for 3, two runs) for the big hit of a five-run frame that put Northgate ahead 8-7. Jonathan Morales (2 for 3, two RBI, home run, three runs) led off the inning with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch. Aiden Howe (2 for 3, RBI, two runs) singled in Nate Rios and Howe scored the last run of the frame off of a single by Nolan Mendes (3 for 3, three RBI, home run).

Down to Northgate’s last out in the sixth inning, Morales belted a two-run home run that scored Bryant Lewis to tie the score at 10-10. Northgate had one more home run on a leadoff homer by Mendes in the fourth.

Ripon scored five runs in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead. Ryder Heuvel led off the frame with a triple and scored on Ashton Smit’s single. Darren Vera singled in Vinicio Ponce (2 for 3, two runs) and Deegan Vrieling with Brae Mason (2 for 3, two RBI, double, run) capping the inning’s scoring on an RBI double that plated Henry Berger (RBI, two runs).

Ripon took a 10-8 lead in the sixth inning after Connor Maguire led off with a triple followed by consecutive RBI singles by Berger, Mason and Ezekial Swier (2 for 3, RBI, run) plated Maguire, Berger and Mason.

Northgate faces either Manteca or Salida on Sunday at noon and Ripon will play either Mountain House or Lathrop on Saturday at noon.
