Manteca Little League’s Brody Carabello was perfect from the mound and almost perfect at the plate, as the White Sox to a 10-0 win over the Ripon Phillies in the semifinal of the District 67 Majors Tournament of Champions on Gillen Field.
Carabello retired all 11 batters he faced in 3.2 innings of work, striking out eight with seven strikeouts in a row. He went 4 for 5 with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI and four runs. His battery mate Bode Hiatt reached base four times behind a home run, triple, walk and fielder’s choice, scoring two runs.
Hiatt relieved Carabello in the fourth inning. After Alex Girardi laced a double for Ripon — the only hit for the Phillies — Hiatt retired six batters in a row behind five strikeouts. Cash Ordnoff came in to mop up in the seventh inning, walking Trenton Cloward before ending the game on a strikeout.
Ordnoff reached base three times, going 2 for 3 with two RBI, knocking in Carabello on a sacrifice fly in the first inning for the game’s first run. Logan Qualls added a double for Manteca.
The White Sox led 4-0 going into the fourth inning and that is when the bats came alive. Hiatt homered and Qualls doubled in the fourth, Carabello homered and Hiatt tripled in the fifth and Carabello belted his second home run in the sixth.
Ripon faces either Patterson or Salida this morning at 9 in the consolation championship and the winner of that contest advances to the championship round against Manteca on Sunday at 9 a.m.
