SALIDA — Lathrop came back to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday, but that was three runs short, as Salida held on for a 12-9 win in the quarterfinals of the District 67 Minor League All-Star Tournament at Salida Park.

Elijah Ageno (2 for 3, RBI, triple, two runs) tripled to start off the Lathrop sixth and came in on an error off the bat of Maddox Schmidt (two RBI, triple, two runs), who later stole home. Dominic Ramos tripled and scored the final Lathrop run when a grounder by Valentina Porras (triple) was misplayed.

Before the seven-run second inning for Salida, Lathrop took a 4-0 lead in the first. Ageno singled and scored on Schmidt’s triple. Schmidt scored on a wild pitch. Trenton Fitzhugh (2 for 3, run) singled, was awarded second when Izaiah Gonzalez was hit by a pitch. Fitzhugh took third on a passed ball and came home when the throw to third sailed into left field. Gonzalez worked his way to third and came home on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.

Lathrop cut the deficit to one in the third. Francisco Hernandez doubled to start the inning for Lathrop followed by a walk to Joaquin Reyes. Hernandez scored on a groundout by Ageno and Reyes scored on an error off the bat of Fitzhugh to come within 7-6.

Salida’s Tyler Glennon was 2 for 4 with four RBI, a double and a run and Isaih Thomas 2 for 3 with four RBI, a double and a run.

Northgate faces Spreckels Park in a consolation quarterfinal this morning at 11:15, and Salida plays Patterson Sunday morning at 11 in the semifinal.
