PATTERSON — First-half turnovers put the Ripon Knights into a deep hole Sunday night they could not dig out of as the Modesto Rams downed Ripon 44-32 to win the varsity Trans-Valley Youth Football League Super Bowl at Patterson Community Stadium.

J.P. Abrew’s 12-yard second-quarter touchdown run got the Knights on the board but Modesto carried a 31-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Abrew (seven receptions, 103 yards) got two more touchdowns in the second half on 2- and 27-yard scoring throws from Mason Tameling (12 of 26 passing, 170 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions). Tameling got the last score of the night for Ripon on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Lushen Sanders tallied 44 yards on 11 carries for the Knights. Blake Stuit, Amos Cady, Jackson Howell and Dax Beidleman all contributed on offense with Tameling going 4 for 4 on conversion kicks, Sanders netting 64 kickoff-return yards and J.J. Brawley added 78 kickoff-return yards.

Eddie Ramirez (forced fumble) made 13 tackles for the Knights. Beidleman added seven stops with Aaron Van Hofwegen, Brawley and Benjamin Vita adding four tackles each and Eli Briseno (fumble recovery) recovered a fumble.
