East catapults Cowboys to Central Valley Youth win over Jr. Spartans

Darien East scored two touchdowns for the Manteca Cowboys varsity in a 20-3 win over the Lathrop Jr. Spartans on Saturday in Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer action.

East (79 yards rushing, 58 yards receiving) scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and on a 58-yard reception from Nehemiah Tomanogi (72 yards passing).

In addition to his interception, East made nine tackles. Kionte Wakefield and Joseph Antione III each made five tackles and an interception.

 

Manteca Jr. Buffaloes 35. Lodi Jr. Flames 7

Manteca’s Josiah Moreno scored two touchdowns.

Moreno (10 carries, 90 yards) scored on runs of 12 and 25 yards and Adriel Cooks pulled in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Brody Carabello (11 carries, 100 yards; three completions, 20 yards). Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz and Leiland Riggelman each had five carries for 39 yards with Menchaca-Ortiz scoring on a 1-yard plunge and Riggelmn scoring from 7 yards out.  

Carabello made nine tackles, Menchaca-Ortiz eight, Riggelman six, Josiah Moreno (interception) five with three each for Isaac Fountain, Isaiah Fountain and Isileli Lolohea.

 

Junior varsity

Jr. Buffaloes 54, Flames 0

Blake Scalise tallied three touchdowns for the Jr. Buffaloes.

Scalise (2 of 3 passing, 72 yards, touchdown; three carries, 85 yards, two touchdowns) scored on runs of 35 and 36 yards and hit Santino Sanchez (five carries, 56 yards, touchdown; two receptions, 72 yards, touchdown) with a 45-yard touchdown pass and Sanchez scored on a 4-yard run. Vicente Diaz (eight carries, 147 yards) scored on runs of 70 and 81 yards, John Ellis (two carries, 41 yards) had a 33-yard touchdown run and Gabriel Gonzalez (two carries, 34 yards) scored from 33 yards out.

Jose Rivera and Grayson Keller paced the Manteca defense with six tackles each. Manoah Ellis, Luke Scalise and Aiden Freitas added five stops apiece with four each for Jaxon Hetrick and Nicholas Jimenez with three apiece for Jacob Hernandez, Ethan Bonderer and Jesus Bermejo (interception). Ellis (forced fumble) and Ethan Bonderer added two stops apiece.

 

Rookies

Jr. Buffaloes 31, Jr. Flames 0
Quinnie Dunbar opened and closed the scoring for Manteca.

Dunbar got the Jr. Buffaloes on the board with a 58-yard touchdown run. DeShon Benton Jr. pulled in 20-yard touchdown pass from Trenton Fitzhugh and Benton Jr. scored on a 45-yard interception. Dennis Johnson scored on a 32-yard run and Dunbar capped the scoring on a 25-yard run.

Manteca’s Brock McCurdy made four tackles and three fumble recoveries. Dunbar (forced fumble) and Blake Esteves added four stops apiece with Benton Jr. and Frankie Archuleta making three stops apiece. Gabe Torres forced a fumble and Adrian Reyes recovered a fumble.

 

Jr. Spartans 31, Cowboys 0

Manteca’s A.J. Aguirre, Mateo Gavino and Max Rios combined for more than 100 yards
Aguirre gained 58 yards on nine carries, Rios 45 yards on six carries and Gavino 33 yards on three carries.

Fernando Ceja and Abel Gorge made seven tackles for the Cowboys. Rolando Ruelas (fumble recovery) added six stops with five apiece for Stevens Charvell and Mateo Gavino.
