Diaz’s pick-6 highlights Jr. Buffs’ victory over Cowboys

Vinny Diaz scored a touchdown on both offense and defense for the varsity Manteca Jr. Buffaloes in a 28-6 win over the Manteca Cowboys in Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer action.

Diaz (15 carries, 139 yards; seven tackles) scored on a 34-yard touchdown run and 95-yard interception. Erian Johnson Jr. (14 carries, 117 yards) added a 4-yard touchdown run, and Isileli Lolohea scored from 3 yards out. Blake Scalise posted 69 passing yards, with Santino Sanchez making three receptions for 54 yards.

Johnson made eight tackles and recovered a fumble. Sanchez added six stops, Isaiah Fountain five with three each for Kyle Acker (interception) and Isaac Fountain.


Junior varsity

Jr. Buffaloes 26, Cowboys 6

John Ellis scored three touchdowns for the Jr. Buffaloes.

Ellis (seven carries, 89 yards) scored on a pair of 3-yard runs and a 48-yard run, and Daniel Navarro recovered a punt blocked by Ethan Bonderer for a touchdown. Quinnie Dunbar picked up 46 yards on nine carries with three first downs.

Aiden Freitas was in on 10 tackles for the Jr. Buffaloes with five each for Ellis and Dominic Love. Deshon Benton Jr. and A.J. Haines each made an interception.

Izaiiah Fay (six carries, 76 yards) scored on a 71-yard run for the Cowboys. Brayden Davis added 26 yards on seven carries for 26 yards

Davis made nine tackles for the Cowboys. Fay (forced fumble, fumble recovery) added four stops and Josiah Hopkins three.


Rookies

Jr. Buffaloes 49, Cowboys 0

Five Jr. Buffaloes scored.

Dre Johnson (three carries, 115 yards) and Jeremiah Williams (three carries, 73 yards) both scored a pair of touchdowns. Steven Wynn Jr. (four carries, 74 yards), Michael Gulley Jr. (one carry, 48 yards) and Trenton Fitzhugh (two carries, 30 yards) each added one touchdown.

Dre Johnson made seven tackles for the Jr. Buffaloes, Jake Husband (fumble recovery) added six, with three apiece for Thomas Underwood, Brock McCurdy and Michael Somera. Jaxson DeBarr forced a fumble.

Mateo Gavino gained 57 yards on eight carries and 37 yards on three receptions for the Cowboys. Alejandro Hernandez was 6-of-8 passing for 61 yards, Romeo Huerta tallied 56 yards on six carries with Donavyn Williams making two receptions for 24 yards.

Gavino and Williams were in on seven tackles apiece, with six each for Alex Gomes and Angelo Martinez.


Starts

Jr. Buffaloes 27, Cowboys 13

It was the Brixxton Fryer Show with four touchdowns on 12 carries for 190 yards.

Fryer scored on runs of 7, 20, 37 and 55 yards. Josiah Silva gained 29 yards on six carries.

Carter Louis made seven tackles for the Cowboys, Carlos Gabriel Hernandez had six, Tiger Singh (fumble recovery) five and Christian Cerna four.

Jackson Batterson scored on a 35-yard run for the Cowboys, with Aaron Hernandez pulling in a 64-yard pass from Mario German.

Frankie Nieto made nine tackles for the Cowboys.


Delta Youth Football

Chavez Titans varsity 26, Manteca Chargers 0

Manteca’s Alexander Cota gained 49 yards on five carries.

Josaiah Law-Lartigue (interception) made seven tackles for the Chargers, with three each for Jacob Hightower and Christopher Rhoda.


Junior varsity

Chargers 19, Titans 8

Maysen Cox scored two touchdown for Manteca.

Cox gained 110 yards on seven carries with touchdown runs of 10 and 20 yards, and Luke Akao (two receptions, 22 yards) scored on a 2-yard pass from Jake Dimas-Garcia.

Cox (fumble recovery) made seven tackles with two each for Julian Baez and Aliah Magana.


Novice

Titans 12, Chargers 6

Manteca blanked Chavez in the first half.  

Jharon Jackson (seven carries, 50 yards) scored on a 5-yard run for the Chargers and Easton Barreras gained 30 yards on three.

Manteca’s Preston Johnson made four stops with three each for Valentino Aguilar and Christian Porter. Julio Rizo recovered a fumble.


Jr. Novice

Chargers 41, Titans 7

Shayne Sutherland Jr., Aiden Reyes and Jameson Vargas each scored two touchdowns for Manteca.

Sutherland, Jr. (six carries, 230 yards) scored on runs of 70 and 90 yards, Reyes (five carries, 124 yards) had touchdown runs of 11 and 55 yards and Vargas (six carries, 120 yards) scored from 20 and 35 yards.

Sutherland, Jr., Vargas, Izaiah Shortridge and Hudson Patton each made three tackles and Grayson Flowers recovered a fumble.
