The Ripon Cyclones 13-under baseball team capped off a big week Tuesday by beating the Smash 13-1 for the Rainbow Fields Spring League title.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Cyclones competed in the Memorial Tournament in Ceres and defeated the Ceres All-Stars 9-0 for the championship.

Ripon clawed its way into the championship round undefeated in the Rainbow Fields Spring League playoffs, having already beaten the Smash in the second round.

But the Smash forced the “if necessary” third contest Tuesday with a 12-3 win. Ripon southpaw hurler Justin Wilson closed out the game strong, however, giving the Smash something to worry about in the deciding game.

The Cyclones spotted Wilson a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but he was given all the run support he needed in the second when they erupted for 10 runs.

Wilson yielded Smash’s lone run in the second before reliever Caleb Rogers entered the game to shut it down for good.
