Chargers JV open season DYFL season with tie

 The Manteca Chargers and Stockton Jr. Jackets junior varsity played to a 6-6 tie Saturday in Delta Youth Football League action at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.

The game was called after the first half. Manteca scored in the second quarter on a run by Maysen Cox (six carries, 54 yards).

Cox led the Chargers defense with four tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Eli Ruiz added two tackles and Jonathan Burleigh a fumble recovery.


Novice

Jr. Jackets 6, Chargers 0

Manteca held Stockton scoreless in the first half before yielding a third-quarter score.

Jharon Jackson (eight carries, 44 yards) led the Chargers offense with contributions from Easton Barreras and Jayden Baez.

Jackson paced the Manteca defense with five tackles followed by Issac Aguilar (three tackles, forced fumble), Josiah Johnson (two tackles, fumble recovery) and Easton Barreras (tackle, interception).


Jr. Novice

Jr. Jackets 31, Chargers 0

Manteca yielded just six second-half points.

Shayne Sutherland Jr. paced the Chargers offense with six carries for 83 yards, followed by Jameson Vargas (four carries, 43 yards) and Legend Johnson (four carries, 40 yards).

Sutherland Jr. tallied six stops with four each for Isaiah Ledesma and Aiden Reyes, and three for Grayson Flowers.

Junior varsity

Modesto Raiders 21, Ripon Knights 20

John Tanner scored three touchdowns for the Knights, who came up short thanks to yielding a fourth-period safety.

Tanner racked up 201 yards on 13 carries, and Blake Swanson contributed on offense.

Tanner paced the Ripon defense with five tackles, followed by Max Neto (four tackles, forced fumble, interception) and Anthony Hudson with four tackles apiece.


Novice

Ripon Chiefs 12, Tri-City Bulldogs 0

Apollo Durrer set the tone for the Chiefs defense with a 60-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the first quarter. Ripon did not allow the Bulldogs inside its 20-yard line.

Nolan Cook capped the game for the Chiefs with a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.


Knights 7, Raiders 0

The game was scoreless until the fourth quarter when Ripon’s Nikolai Gorbunoff scored on a 5-yard touchdown run.

The Knights’ Aiden John passed for 65 yards, connecting with Jackson Quilantang for 45 yards and Mearl Thompson for 20 yard. Brayden Camara ran a clutch 17-yard first down to seal the win late in the fourth quarter.

Quilantang (six tackles) stripped the ball in the third quarter and returned it 45 yards to swing the momentum Ripon’s way. Camara led the Knights defense with eight tackles.
