Buffs varsity, rookies repeat as Central Valley Youth champs

 STOCKTON — For the second time in two years, the Manteca Jr. Buffaloes varsity won the Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer Super Bowl, this time on Saturday with a 30-0 thumping of their crosstown rival Manteca Cowboys at St. Mary’s High’s Sanguinetti Field.

The Jr. Buffaloes led just 8-0 at halftime before Vinny Diaz (15 carries, 230 yards) rolled to second-half touchdown runs of 9, 71 and 60 yards. Erian Johnson Jr. (13 carries, 130 yards) got the Cowboys on the board in the first period with a 2-yard scoring plunge.

Johnson Jr. and Santino Sanchez paced the Cowboys with six tackles each. Diaz, Isileli Lolohea and Isaac Fountain added five tackles apiece with four each for Isaac Estrada (interception) and Isaiah Fountain. Kyle Acker recovered a fumble and snagged an interception.


Rookies

Jr. Buffaloes 19, Lathrop Jr. Spartans 0

The Jr. Buffaloes wrapped up back-to-back undefeated seasons with their shutout win over Lathrop.

Jeremiah Williams was the workhorse for Manteca with 175 yards on 15 carries including a 90-yard touchdown run. Jeremiah Talavera posted a 1-yard quarterback sneak for a score. Bryson Benton capped the scoring in the fourth period with a 55-yard interception returned for touchdown. Eliceo Calchado contributed to the Jr. Buffaloes offense.

Brock McCurdy, Elijah Ruiz, Mateo Mena and Jakob Husband led the Manteca defense with five tackles apiece with four apiece for Benton, Steven Wynn Jr. and Ezekiel Thomas.
