Ripon High freshman Reyna Biedermann got to represent Team USA in the Aloha State.
She made the final cut to travel with the USA Water Polo U14 Women’s Development National Team and compete in the 55th annual Hawaiian Invitational from July 31-Aug. 6. The team played in the under-18 division and placed second.
Biedermann left her mark, tallying three assists, four shots on goal and four steals. She had a goal called back when a teammate was whistled for a foul.
The WDNT more than held its own against older competition, winning five straight before getting edged by Commerce Aquatics ‘B’ 7-6 in the final. They opened with a 10-4 victory over New Zealand, blew out Honolulu Green 15-3, dispatched Foothill 15-9, squeaked past Punahoe 6-5 and held off Commerce ‘A,’ 8-6.
Biedermann is one of just three Northern California residents on the WDNT roster. She made it back home in time to begin her first year at Ripon High.
It has been an eventful summer for Biedermann, starting with her making the WDNT just two days before her eighth-grade promotion at Colony Oak Elementary. She was among the 85 athletes in her age group selected out of the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program National Championships to try out for a spot on the national team.
