STOCKTON (AP) — Caleb Baragar got Jason Goldstein to hit into a double play in the eighth inning, leading the San Jose Giants to a 5-1 win over the Stockton Ports on Sunday.
The double play came with the bases loaded and prevented the Ports from scoring in the inning.
Down 1-0 in the fifth, Stockton tied the game when Kevin Merrell hit an RBI single, bringing home Edwin Diaz.
The Giants grabbed the lead in the ninth inning when Frandy De La Rosa drew a bases-loaded walk and then scored on a three-run triple by Gio Brusa.
Baragar (1-2) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Will Gilbert (3-1) took the loss in the California League game.
San Jose improved to 5-2 against Stockton this season.
Giants 2, Ports 1
STOCKTON — Jacob Heyward hit a run-scoring double in the fourth inning, leading the San Jose Giants to a 2-1 win over the Stockton Ports on Saturday.
Patrick Ruotolo got Nate Mondou to fly out with a runner on first to end the game for his sixth save of the season.
Jalen Miller scored on Heyward’s double to give the Giants a 1-0 lead after he led off the inning with a single.
After San Jose added a run in the fifth on a home run by Brandon Van Horn, the Ports cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Dairon Blanco hit an RBI single, driving in Mondou.
San Jose southpaw Sandro Cabrera (6-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Parker Dunshee (2-2) took the loss in the California League game after he allowed one run on just two hits over four innings.
Brallan Perez doubled and singled twice for the Ports.
With the win, San Jose improved to 4-2 against Stockton this season.
