SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Connor Justus hit a grand slam in the first inning, leading the Inland Empire 66ers to an 8-5 win over the Stockton Ports on Sunday.
The grand slam by Justus capped a five-run inning and gave the 66ers a 5-2 lead after Jordan Zimmerman hit an RBI double earlier in the inning.
Following the big inning, the Ports tied the game in the third inning when Nate Mondou hit a two-run double and then scored on a double by Luke Persico.
The 66ers took the lead for good in the third when Franklin Navarro hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Justus.
Zimmerman doubled and singled twice, driving in two runs for Inland Empire.
Nate Bertness (2-7) got the win in relief while Stockton starter Dustin Hurlbutt (3-4) took the loss in the California League game. Brett Hanewich pitched two scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
Mondou doubled three times, driving home three runs and scoring a couple for the Ports.
