VOLLEYBALL: Lathrop, Ripon capture league championships

Lathrop’s girls volleyball annexed its first Western Athletic Conference title since 2019 on Monday with a one-sided 25-8, 25-9, 25-13 sweep of visiting Central Valley.

The Spartans (13-0 WAC, 19-8 overall) can have it to themselves tonight by winning their regular-season finale at three-time reigning champion Beyer, which still has a chance to earn a share of the championship.

Elizabeth Andrade led them against Central Valley with eight kills, three aces and five digs. Siliana Fa’ataualofa had five kills, two aces and three digs. Annabelle Obasuyi chimed in with two kills and one block.

Ayden Petroff tallied seven assists and five aces, while splitting setting duties with Alyssa Roller (nine assists, two aces, two digs).

Zoe Cejas spearheaded the back row with 10 digs to go with two aces.


Ripon 3, Escalon 0

The Indians (11-0, 25-2) own sole possession of the Trans-Valley League crown for a second straight year after dispatching Escalon on the road Tuesday, 25-23, 25-15, 25-20.

Katelyn Bogetti was at the center of their balanced attack with 31 assists. She also had two blocks.

Adrianna Dorn was on the receiving end on much of those assists, finishing with 16 kills. Jorie Eskes pitched in with nine kills and three blocks. Shayla McKeon had six kills.

Olivia Newman helped anchor the front-row defense with three blocks. Amelia Lara came up with a team-high five digs.


Ripon Christian 3, Orestimba 0

The Knights (6-5, 16-15) took care of business against their old Southern League rival 25-13, 25-22, 25-21, setting up a big TVL finale at Sonora where the winner grabs the third and last automatic playoff berth in the league.

Paige Van Hofwegen pummeled 18 kills in the home match with Orestimba. Alanna Blanco distributed 39 assists. Anneke Dyt recorded 21 digs, and Brynn Bohn served up three aces.

Ripon Christian won the JV match, 25-5, 25-12.


Sierra 3, East Union 0

The Timberwolves (9-3, 18-11) finish as runners-up in the Valley Oak League after downing their rivals, 25-8, 25-21, 25-15.

Four-year starter Meritiani Luani had eight assists and seven service points for East Union (4-8, 6-10). Marcella Carranza had 10 assists and four digs. Isabella Rodriguez served eights points to go with four digs. Katelynn Trevino and Jaelynn Ballou doled out five kills apiece.


Manteca 3, Oakdale 1

Manteca (7-5 VOL, 14-11) is on the bubble for an at-large bid to the playoffs and hopeful that its 25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18 at Oakdale can push it through.

Saniyah Anthony amassed 20 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Taimane Tu’uga was an ace shy of a triple-double, finishing with 16 kills and 13 digs.

Libero Nicole Ayala turned in 30 digs, four aces and three aces. Riley Ward handed out 30 assists while contributing nine digs to the defense. Kamiyah Johnson had six digs, 11 service points and two aces.


Junior varsity

Lathrop 2, Central Valley 1

The Spartans came from behind to win 22-25, 25-22, 15-9 behind Brianna Valencia’s four kills and seven digs. Hazel Beltran helped with three kills, three aces and five digs.

Vivianna Salcedo dished out 11 assists, while Rosemary Libaste picked up 12 digs and a pair of aces.


Ripon 2, Escalon 0

Ripon rolled to the 25-21, 25-16 sweep, getting nine kills from Jazmin Gonzalez.

Anandjap Dhami had five kills and a block. Samantha Loretelli added 11 assists and three kills. Alyssa Lan paced the defense with four digs. Kendall Burrow contributed two aces and two digs.


Manteca 2, Oakdale 0

Maylea Sims recorded 24 assists, 10 service points and eight digs to lead the Buffaloes’ 25-17, 25-17 victory.

Arvein Pablo produced 13 kills, seven digs and two aces. Maddie Nunes chimed in with nine digs, four kills and two aces.


Freshman

Lathrop 2, Central Valley 0

The Spartans did much of their damage from the service line in the 25-10, 25-12 sweep.

Audrina Fisher led the charge with eight service aces. Cassidy Fa’ali’i scored five aces to go with seven assists. Irshbir Bisla and Alexza Bringas fired four aces each. Andrea Lemus chipped in three kills and three digs. Lilyanna Murillo collected seven digs.


Oakdale 2, Manteca 0

Manteca fell short, 15-25, 27-29.

Jill Aldape netted seven assists and three kills. Lana Bondoc had 12 digs and three service points. Dannica Branco fired four kills.


East Union 2, Sierra 1

The Lancers (5-6 VOL, 6-9 overall) prevailed in the back-and-forth affair, 23-25, 25-23, 15-7.

Lola Alvarez headed the attack with five kills and two aces. Kadence Rossi had three kills and four aces. Isabella Martinez Lopez also had three kills to go with a pair of blocks. Camille Christensen served up three aces.
