Adonis Siga and Starla Skiles enjoyed another successful season as two of the top hurdlers in the Sac-Joaquin Section, while Jayden Scarver and Clara Scholland had breakthroughs that landed them in the final meet of the season.

The foursome qualified for the 104th California Interscholastic Federation State Championships. Siga and Scarver are the Manteca Bulletin All-Area Co-Boys Track and Field Athletes of the Year, while Ripon teammates Scholland and Skiles share the girls award.

The youngest of the four made the biggest splash at the end of the season. Schoolland, only a sophomore, was a major points contributor for Ripon’s Trans-Valley League co-champion girls team, competing in the 400, 4x400 relay, 300 hurdles and high jump and earning top-four finishes in all of them in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V finals.

It was in the high jump where she left her mark beyond that. Scholland tied her own school record of 5 feet, 4 inches for second place in the SJS Masters Championships, clinching a spot in the state meet.

At Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Schoolland set a personal record with a 5-5 leap in the preliminary round. That advanced her to the final, and she matched the mark to secure a sixth-place medal.

champion and added the 100 hurdles to her gold-medal collection. She was also on the third-place 4x100 relay and teamed with Schoolland on the runner-up 4x400.

The junior was even better the following meet at Masters, securing a state berth in both events with personal records.

Skiles placed fourth in the 100 hurdles in 14.46 seconds, hitting the at-large standard to make state. In the 300, she rambled to a 44.98 finish, good for third place. At state, Skiles placed 18th in the 100 hurdles (14.81) and 21st in the 300 hurdles (45.67).

Siga became the second two-time qualifier for the CIF meet from Lathrop, following high jumper Isaias Hunter (2016-17). Perhaps the best moment of his senior campaign was shared with the team.

After narrowly came up short of the SJS Division IV championship in 2023, Lathrop got over the hump this year for the first boys track title in program history.

Siga capped a dominant three-year run at the divisional meet, earning three straight personal championships in the 110 and 300 hurdles. He also placed third in the 100-meter dash with a new PR of 11.04 seconds and was part of the runner-up 4x100 relay.

In the Masters meet, Siga placed fourth in both the 110 hurdles (14.38) and 300 hurdles (38.88). He hit the at-large state-qualifying mark in the 110 after making the CIF meet in the 300 as a junior. Siga opted not to make a return trip to state, however, as he attended his graduation.
