Lathrop started its season strong Tuesday, sweeping past visiting Lathrop, 25-15, 25-14, 25-16.
Alaba Olaleye led the charge with her all-around effort, tallying five kills, six aces and 14 digs. Irais Martinez contributed 18 digs and two aces.
Liliana Navarro added five kills and four aces. Azul Maldonado turned in four kills and four digs. Navi Kaur, Lizzy Andrade and Za’Ryah Mageo each had three kills.
Lathrop travels to Patterson today.
Sonora 3, Ripon 2
In a rematch of a Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV semifinal Tuesday, the host Indians were unable to carry their early momentum in a 25-18, 25-11, 20-25, 14-25, 12-15 defeat. Sonora swept the previous meeting and lost to Escalon in the final.
“We played hard the first two sets last night,” Ripon coach Casey Berry said. “We had an opportunity to move around our players and give our starters a rest. We started off well, but momentum shifted on our side and Sonora took advantage of that.”
Makenzie Loechler and Avery McKiernan stood out for Ripon.
Ripon’s JV swept, and the freshmen lost in two.

Annie Millan registered six kills, four aces and five digs as the Spartans held on for the sweep, 25-19, 25-22.
Justine Mabutas collected 10 digs and six aces. Milyn Morales and Faith Moya rapped two kills apiece. A

Lathrop was productive from the service line in its hard-earned 25-22, 28-26 victory.
Alyana Vere served seven aces to go with three digs, Tatiana Lopez added six aces, Shakara Porter fired five and Dahlia Ricaldi chipped in two.
