SONORA – It what has become customary in Sierra High baseball games, the Timberwolves battled with Sonora High for seven innings, but could not get the runs they needed in a 2-1 Valley Oak League loss Friday.

Sierra (5-2 VOL, 10-6 overall) used a solid effort from starting pitcher Bryce Willis, who went six innings and held Sonora to a run in the second and a run in the fourth keep the Timberwolves in the contest. Sonora (8-0, 13-2) continued their impressive season-long run, wining for the 10th straight game.

Sierra’s Alex Arreola went 1 for 2 in the loss, and teammate Ken Leasure roped a triple for the only two Timberwolves hits.

Sierra tied the game with a run in the fourth, but promptly found themselves digging out of another deficit when Sonora’s Jay Foster scored from third base on a passed ball. Sierra will have to rebound from back-to-back losses in a hurry with a trip to Ceres waiting on the Timberwolves on Tuesday.

“I was very pleased with the way we bounced back from Tuesday,” Sierra head coach Jack Thomson said. “It was a well-played game, and we feel like we did get better out there today.”
