East Union senior Chloee Agueda is Hawaii-bound — University of Hawaii to be exact. The Lancers right fielder inked a scholarship offer Thursday night in front of a standing-room-only crowd of friends and family in the school library.
“Tonight was amazing,” Agueda said. “I am so lucky to have all these people in my life who support me and it was nice to be recognized for all the hard work I put in which was capped off by signing.
“I am beyond lucky to have this opportunity.”
Agueda will be hard-pressed to top last season’s campaign. In 12 Valley Oak League games last year, Agueda only made 12 outs from the plate and batted .700, being named the VOL’s Offensive Player of the Year along with first-team All-Area and All-State.
“What a gem,” East Union coach Brian Goulart said. “Signing a Division I scholarship and being in the top 1 percent of kids who sign says it all. She is a slugger, a great person and a great player — the perfect progression. Everyone loves her. You don’t get to fill a room like this and hear the stories that you heard with everyone crying like they were unless you are awesome and Chloee is awesome.
“For us, our highest award is to be named captain and she is our senior captain and a good choice at that. I am very proud of her.”
The Lancers open the 2020 campaign today at 6 p.m. on the road against Stagg of Stockton.
