It would have required some big improvements from their personal-best times for East Union senior Taylor Snaer and Lathrop junior Adonis Siga to move onto the final heats of the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships.
Although both came up short Friday at Buchanan High’s Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Clovis, they still turned in solid performances in the final meet of the season.
After qualifying to this meet in the 400-meter dash last year, Snaer returned for the 200. Despite limited training because of a sore back, she set a personal record of 24.72 seconds to finish third in her heat and with the 13th best overall time. She also placed 13th in the 400 preliminaries in her junior season.
Brazil Neal of Serra (Gardena) clocked the top-seeded time for today’s final at a wind-aided 23.80. Kori Fields of St. Mary’s (Stockton), the Sac-Joaquin Section champion in the event, seized the ninth and final spot 24.55 seconds.
Siga also took third in his heat and 13th overall while r unning the 300 hurdles. He crossed the finish line in 38.56 seconds, narrowly missing his PR of 38.45 set in the SJS Masters meet last week.
Darryl Stevens of Jordan (Long Beach) blazed to the No. 1 time of 37.75. Peter Olson of Junipero Serra (San Mateo) took the last berth to the final heat at 38.33.
