Sierra’s Leslie Reyes named All-VOL girls soccer MVP
Two area boys players repeat as first-team selections

 Sierra junior Leslie Reyes has been named All-Valley Oak League girls soccer MVP, and she’s one of five Timberwolves to be selected to the first team.

Sierra (11-1 VOL, 21-4-2 overall) claimed its 18th league title under Manuel Pires, the Coach of the Year. Third-place East Union (5-5-2, 12-11-3) and Manteca (1-9-2, 5-15-4) each have two first-team selections.

The runner-up East Union boys (7-2-3, 13-6-7) and Sierra (6-6, 13-8) have three all-league players apiece, and Manteca (2-8-2, 3-18-3) has one. Champion Patterson (11-0-1, 15-1-4) received the top honors, as forward Andrew Diaz garnered MVP, and Luis Torres is Coach of the Year.


GIRLS

Reyes finished as Sierra’s leading scorer in VOL play with 35 points on 11 goals and 13 assists. She had 10 scoring contributions in 10 of 12 league contests, recording braces in four of them.

The Timberwolves had the most prolific attacking tandem in the league in the dynamic Reyes and senior striker Hailey Cruz, who tallied 13 goals and seven assists. She’s on the All-VOL first team after making the second team as a junior.

Sierra junior midfielder Maitland Kohoutek (four goals, six assists) is a two-time first-team selection. Senior fullback Hannah Hint and sophomore defender Mikaela Delgado round out Sierra’s first-team honorees. They each contributed a goal and two assists to the attack.

The T’wolves had four make the second team in sophomore midfielder Zoe Sutton (five goals, six assists), senior defender Alani Mullenix (goal), junior defender Natalie Ruvalcaba (goal) and junior midfielder Hailey Gama (goal, two assists).

Sophomore midfielder Addyson Soulier (two goals, five assists) and freshman goalie Kadence Rossi (eight goals allowed, 105 saves) represent East Union on the all-league first team. Rossi finished with the sixth most saves in the Sac-Joaquin Section and 12th most in the state with 192 (8.0 per game).

The Lancers have five second-team selections: Freshman forward Emily Pires (three goals), senior forward Kaylee Mejia (goal), sophomore midfielder Alexa Bretao (two goals, assist), junior defender Carrera Mendez (assist) and sophomore defender Geonna Flores.

Manteca senior Serenity Cerritos (three goals) earned first-team recognition along with sophomore defender Brooklyn Cornish (goal, assist).

Players earning honorable mention from area schools: Larissa Harries (East Union), Brooke Dorland (East Union), Andrea Guibor (East Union), Jaylyn Jaurigue (East Union), Aman Dhillon (Sierra), Anayla McDonald (Sierra), Emma Dunham (Sierra) and Hailey Daniel (Sierra).

BOYS

Hugo Reyes leads East Union on the all-league list. The senior striker compiled seven goals and four assists in league play to earn his spot on the first time after making the second team while with Sierra last season.

Senior goalkeeper Daniel Diaz (11 goals allowed, 42 saves) and junior midfielder Ben Diaz also received first-team distinction.

Five Lancers made the second team: defender senior Daniel Medina, freshman forward Yandel Gutierrez (five goals, three assists), senior midfielder Alexis Machuca (three goals, four assists), senior defender Diego Bustamante (assist) and freshman midfielder Carlos Heredia (two goals).

Senior center back Christopher Stackpole (assist) is a two-time All-VOL first-team member for Sierra. Joining him are fellow senior defender Noah Ofman (two goals, assist) and senior midfielder Alejandro Sanchez (five goals, eight assists). Junior forward Neddy Ramos (six goals, three assists), junior midfielder Ayden Acka (four goals, assist) and senior forward Esteban Franco (two goals, assist) made the second team.

straight year. Buffaloes on the second team are junior defenders Christian Ambriz and Adrian Anaya and senior keeper Leo Garcia (59 saves).

Earning honorable mention: Carlos Barajas (East Union), Emiliano Aparicio (East Union), Efren Ruiz (East Union), Maddox Torres (East Union) and Kevin Mundo (Manteca).
