Sierra outside hitters make All-VOL first team

 Two Sierra outside hitters were named to the All-Valley Oak League girls volleyball first team, while Manteca and East Union each had one.

The runner-up Timberwolves (9-3 VOL, 19-12 overall are represented by senior Sophia Threet and freshman Delicia Kivalu-Ahio. Senior libero Nicole Ayala of third-place Manteca (8-5, 15-13) joins them on the list, while Meritiana Luani of East Union (4-8, 5-12) earned first-team recognition for the second time in her four varsity seasons.

Kivalu-Ahio led Sierra with 130 kills (3.3 per set) in league matches. Threet produced 92 kills (2.3 per set), 29 aces, 10 blocks and 40 digs.

After receiving second-team honors the past two seasons, Ayala amassed 183 digs, 32 aces and 36 assists to earn her first-team spot.

The versatile Luani, who made all-league first team as a freshman, netted 34 kills, 22 aces, 55 digs and 79 assists for the Lancers.

Sierra has two second-team honorees in senior libero Ellis Denny (163 digs, 31 aces, 32 assists) and junior setter Cianna Leonardo (150 assists, 31 aces, 75 digs).

Junior outside hitter Saniyah Anthony (112 kills, 13 blocks, 12 aces, 101 digs) and sophomore middle Trinity Todd (50 kills, 38 blocks) are Manteca’s second-team selections, while senior outside hitter Katelynn Trevino (114 kills, 19 blocks, 18 aces, 78 digs) got the nod for East Union.

Getting honorable mention: Amari Currey and Hannah Threet of Sierra, Riley Ward of Manteca and Marcella Carranza and Giselle Velazquez of East Union.

Senior libero Morgan Lung is the MVP, and junior outside hitter Alyssa Thomas was awarded Most Outstanding after they led Central Catholic (10-0, 18-8) to the league title.
