Sierra’s boys basketball team earned its first win of the season Tuesday, rallying past visiting Ripon in overtime, 62-52.
The Timberwolves (1-2) dominated the extra period, 12-2. Ripon (0-4) led 42-36 after three quarters.
Julian Ruiz carried the load early on, scoring 16 of his 21 points in the first half. Riley Kane contributed with 13 points, hitting two 3s. Cody Vueve chipped in nine points.
Ripon senior Marcus Madoski led all players with 23 points to go with four blocks but was held scoreless after the third quarter. Logan Lefebvre added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Ripon Christian 49, Stone Ridge Christian 43
Ripon Christian (2-0) took control early on but could not break away from the visitors from Merced.
Six-foot-9 center Walker Postma helped seal the win with a blocked shot followed by an inside field goal in the final minute. He finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.
Jake Vander Veen paced all scorers with 20 points. Amos Cady chimed in with six points, six rebounds and three assists. EJ Bruno pulled down eight boards.
Daijon O’Neil and 6-7 sophomore Tyler McCabe scored 12 points apiece for Stone Ridge (0-2).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
El Capitan 59, East Union 58 (OT)
Madysen Dietz knocked down one of two free throws with 6.3 seconds remaining, and the Gauchos (4-0) of Merced escaped Dalben Center with the victory.
Dietz led all scorers with 16 points and was supported by Avnoor Bains’ 14.
East Union (3-2) trimmed a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter when it outscored El Cap 19-7 to force the extra period. Zyondupree Beasley dribbled the length of the court and converted on a spinning layup to beat the buzzer at the end of regulation. She finished with 14 points.
Ava Barrera and Alexa Zuniga each pumped in 15 points, while Haven Stone added 12.
Ripon 36, Pitman 33
The Indians (1-2) picked up the first win under new coach John Scheid.
Ten different players scored for Ripon, which was paced by Leila Sanchez’s seven points. Scarlett Ponce had six.
Pitman (1-3) leaned on Dailynn Greener, who drained three 3s in the first quarter on the way to a game-high 18 points.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sierra 6, Hilmar 1
Hailey Cruz netted a hat trick and an assist to lead Sierra (2-0) in its home opener.
Aman Dhillon and Leslie Reyes each had one goal and one assist. Maitland Kohoutek dished out two assists. Zoe Sutton contributed a goal, and Hannah Hint an assist.
Amaya Pacheco racked up three saves in 70 minutes in goal, and Mele Sanchez had one.
Alexis Aguiar scored for Hilmar (2-1-1), which was outshot, 23-9.
JV boys basketball
Sierra 68, Ripon 47
The Timberwolves (2-1) made a whopping 16 3-pointers in 30 attempts.
Ryan Alves accounted for six of those 3s in the first half alone, finishing 7-of-9 for 21 points overall.
Manolo Asuncion fired 13 points with four 3s, Karanbir made three 3s for the bulk of his 12 points and Isaac Kempf grabbed 11 rebounds to go with nine points.

East Union 51, El Capitan 27
The Lancers were spearheaded by Savannah Lopez’s 17 points.
Lucian Dayeh contributed with 12 points, while Kymoni Beasley had eight.

Isabella Cruz and Ivy Sutton each amassed three goals and one assist.
Kaylee Rodriguez had six goal contributions and was on the finishing end of two of them. Mikayla Mercier chipped in a brace, and Amanda Magana had one tally.
Frosh boys basketball
Sierra 41 Ripon 24
Sierra ran away with it in the second half with a 25-9 outburst.
Kiral Tran netted 11 points, and Jonah Patterson had eight. Jack Taylor and Billy Taylor each pitched in six.
Sierra lead by 1 at the half, but outscored Ripon 25-9 in the second half. Kiral Tran lead the way with 11 points. Jonah Patterson had 8, 6 each for Jack Taylor and Billy Taylor.
Frosh girls basketball
East Union 49, El Capitan 6
Camille Christeneu collected 10 points and 10 rebounds in the lopsided victory for EU.
Elle Baluyut produced 14 points and eight assists. Giselle Tuggles also had 14 points.
