ROUNDUP: TVL-leading Indians earn big road win at Sonora

Ripon’s girls basketball team has two big road games this week in Trans-Valley League play, and the Indians passed the first test Tuesday at Sonora with a 35-30 win.

They can build a two-game lead in the standings with a win at Escalon on Thursday.

An 11-4 third quarter propelled Ripon (4-0 TVL, 11-9 overall) past the Wildcats (2-2, 6-9). Shayla McKeon paced the Indians with nine points, and Kaylee Lehmkuhl hit two 3s on her way to scoring eight points. Anandjap Dhami and Lauren Peters each added six points, combining to score 10 of them in the second half.

Taylor Faught fired 13 points for Sonora, and Isabella Ahrens had 11.


Lathrop 44, Central Valley 41

Lathrop picked up its third straight win to even its Western Athletic Conference mark to 3-3.

The Spartans (11-10 overall) held off visiting Central Valley (1-5, 7-14) in the end despite scoring just three points in the fourth quarter. Making 10 of 17 free throws overall helped keep them ahead.

Shakara Porter led them with 12 points and eight rebounds. Tati Lopez provided an early spark with two and-1 conversions on consecutive possessions. She finished with seven points, five steals and four rebounds.

Jaleiyah Ray racked up six points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Abby Renteria added nine points, six rebounds and four steals.


BOYS BASKETBALL

Ripon Christian 57, Escalon 44

The Knights (3-1, 14-5 overall) mounted a furious 26-5 run in the fourth quarter, knocking down four 3-pointers to race away with the pivotal win.

Mason Tameling ignited the big finish, scoring the first 11 points of the period including three 3s. He ended with a game-high 19 points.

Amos Cady added 18 points, and Jake Vander Veen had 11. Daniel Gonzalez led Escalon (2-2, 12-8) with 12 points.


BOYS SOCCER

Sierra 5, Central Catholic 0

The Timberwolves (5-2, 12-3 overall) dominated the Valley Oak League match in Modesto, getting two goals and an assist from Alejandro Sanchez.

Ayden Acka and Esteban Franco contributed one goal and one assist each. Preston Gallegos scored one goal, while Neddy Ramos and Axel Razo each had an assist.


Frosh girls basketball

Lathrop 49, Central Valley 9

Kaliyah Urrutia fired nine of her 17 points in the opening quarter, while Laniyah Stroud Prince and Ishaan Singh poured in 13 apiece.

Stroud Prince also accumulated seven rebounds and four assists, while Singh added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. The Spartans improved to 5-1 in the WAC.
