ROUNDUP: Sierra’s Gonzalez places 6th in Artichoke XC invitational

Sierra’s boys cross country team placed fifth out of 33 teams in the Artichoke Invitational small-schools division Saturday at Half Moon Bay High.

The girls team took eighth out of 18 teams. Lathrop also competed in the small-schools division.

Christian Gonzalez paced the Timberwolves’ boys team, finishing the 2.3-mile course in 12 minutes, 18 seconds for sixth place. Ernesto Pacheco Jr. took 13th in 12:39. Anthony Bueno (56th, 13:32), Manuel Alvarez (96th, 14:11) and Rishabh Gopal (97th, 14:11) also contributed to Sierra’s score.

Riley Gier came in 47th in 13:28 to lead Lathrop to 22nd place. Adrian Vaye followed in 93rd with a time of 14:09.

Spearheading Sierra’s girls team was freshman Anna Dittman, who clocked a 15:40 time for 14th place. Following suit were Monse Saavedra (22nd, 16:04), Haley Hill (67th, 17:24), Ashlyn Springer (83rd, 18:00) and Serena Dittman (96th, 18:26).

Lathrop took 13th as a team with Jacqueline Pena Santillan (47th, 16:49) and Mackenzie Collins (74th, 17:39) leading the charge.


Tom Laythe Invitational

Manteca’s Oscar Angel placed seventh out of 275 entrants in the varsity boys large school division at Willow Hills Reservoir’s 5,000-meter course in Folsom. He crossed the finish in 16:15.72.

Fellow Buffalo Jordyn Hegarty took 77th (23:11.29) in varsity girls.

In the small-school division, Isaiah Green placed 19th (17:52.92) to lead the Ripon boys to 22nd place. Ripon Christian was 18th with freshman Hans Schoolland (54th, 19:04.32) and Matijs Zylstra (88th, 19:51.02) pacing the Knights.

Ripon’s girls placed ninth. Mallory Govia (43rd, 23:02.34), Kember Duncan (62nd, 24:05.27), Violet Wagner (63rd, 24:07.64) were their top performers.

Manteca’s Paisley Coenenberg highlighted lower-level runners, placing fifth (14:55.30) in the 3,400-meter frosh-soph girls large-school division.


FLAG FOOTBALL

Lathrop 46, Grace Davis 6

In Modesto, quarterback Luz De Luna led Lathrop (8-1 Western Athletic Conference, 13-2 overall) with a school-record 319 yards and six touchdowns on 22-of-34 passing. She even caught a pass for 29 yards.

Heiddy Camacho was the top target with six receptions, 120 yards and three touchdowns. Jaleiyah Ray (75 receiving yards, 30 rushing), Kirat Sidhu (three receptions, 39 yards) and Faith Allen each caught a touchdown. Sareah Reed added an 11-yard touchdown run.

The defense was anchored by Angie Gonzalez’s seven tackles. Tianna Gonzalez had an interception. Makayla Hegler pressured the Grace Davis QB for two sacks and four hurries.

Grace Davis remains winless at 0-9 in the WAC, 0-12 overall.

Lathrop 31, Grace Davis 0

The Spartans did their damage on the ground, rushing for five touchdowns.

Melia Lewis accounted for two scores, finishing with five carries for 75 yards. Marianna Coon, Morgan Hegler and Rose Hernandez each contributed one TD.

Coon also led the defense with five pass breakups, one interception and two tackles. Sharan Gil recorded seven tackles.
