ROUNDUP: Sierra secures 1st VOL girls water polo title

Sierra’s girls water polo team clinched its first Valley Oak League title Wednesday with a 10-3 win at Oakdale. The boys team dropped a 13-10 decision.

In the girls game, the Timberwolves (8-0 VOL, 18-8 overall) scored the first eight goals with Gianna Ramos accounting for three of them. Oakdale did not break through until Lacey Perreira struck with 3:17 left in the third quarter.

Phoebe Burke contributed two goals for Sierra. Mele Sanchez, Olivia Knott, Stephanie Thomason, Kenidee Bauer and Bianca Fraser each had one.

The Sierra boys team (6-4, 12-11) were nearly shut down in the second half of its game after leading 9-8 at halftime. Collins Schluer gave the Timberwolves their final lead at 9-8 with 15 seconds remaining in the second quarter. That was his fourth and final goal of the contest.

Oakdale took over in the second half, when Baron Haidlen bagged three of his game-high six goals. Tyler Mercer pushed the Mustangs ahead for good, 11-10, with 2:40 left in the third quarter.

Bayan Ballew tallied three goals for Sierra. Kiran Tran had two, including the T’wolves’ lone score of the second half. Carson Murray scored once.

Sierra ends VOL play next week with road games at Mountain House and Patterson.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Livingston 0

The Western Athletic Conference-leading Spartans (12-0, 18-8 overall) took care of business at home with a 25-10, 25-6, 25-12 sweep.

Elizabeth Andrade led them with 10 kills, six digs, two aces and a block. Siliana Fa’ataualofa contributed four kills, three aces and six digs. Erin Chunn and Shakara Porter added two kills each.

Setter Ayden Petroff netted 13 assists, four aces, four digs and a block. Justine Mabutas picked up 11 digs.


JV girls volleyball

East Union 2, Patterson 0

The Lancers swept on Tuesday to improve to 9-1 in the VOL.

Elle Baluyut amassed 25 digs to lead the defense. Kendall Blackwell and Emily Pires blasted four kills apiece. Lulu Dayeh dished out nine assists.


Lathrop 2, Livingston 0

Brianna Valencia fired 10 kills to highlight the Lathrop’s 25-17, 25-21 victory.

Rosemary Libaste pitched in 11 digs and four aces. Setter Vivianna Salcedo distributed 14 assists. Aniyah McGriff added three kills and a block. Hazel Beltran produced 10 digs and two aces.


Frosh girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Livingston 0

The Spartans coasted to the 25-6, 25-8 sweep.

Cassidy Fa’ali’i led the attack with nine assists and four aces, while Alexza Bringas chipped in eight assists and two aces. Audrina Fisher doled out eight kills.

Irhsbir Bisla served up six aces to go with two kills and a block. Andrea Lemus added two kills, an ace, a block and three digs. Lilyanna Murillo collected six digs.
