ROUNDUP: Ripon volleyball sweeps Linden on senior night

Ripon’s girls volleyball team honored its seven seniors in a non-league match with visiting Linden on Wednesday and came away with a 25-19, 25-12, 25-11 sweep.

Leading the way was the senior setter tandem of Kaya Whittaker (13 assists, five aces) and Reagan Wilkerson (18 assists, five kills, four aces, six digs). Kylee Fullmer paced the attack with 12 kills to go with two blocks.

Katherine Eskes added eight kills and two blocks, and Kailee Inderbitzin had three kills and three blocks.

The Indians (26-5) will look to lock up the outright Trans-Valley League title Monday at Hilmar.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Escalon Invite

Ripon’s Mallory Govia placed fifth individually in the 5,000-meter junior/senior girls race finishing in 21 minutes, 55.30 seconds at Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton. She led the Indians to a runner-up finish behind Pleasant Grove. Ripon Christian took fifth.

Alyson Harvey took 11th for Ripon in 23:00.70, and Celeste Nunez came in 16th in 24:05.30. Anika Schoolland (23:37.70), Laura Thompson (23:31.20) and Addison De Jong (23:54.10) finished 13-14-15 in that order for Ripon Christian.

Ripon took third in junior/senior boys, and Ripon Christian was fifth. Ripon’s Rajdeep Singh (13th, 18:32.70) was the top finisher from the area. Teammate Luke Bair followed in 19th in 18:57.60.

Ripon’s freshman/sophomore boys were the runners-up of their division with Jonathan Salinas, Moses Gomez and Emilio Machado Perez finishing 4-5-6 to lead the charge. Clara Schoolland took seventh for Ripon in the freshman/sophomore girls race.

 

Western Athletic Conference

Lathrop sophomore Jacquelyn Pena Santillan placed sixth (24:09.6) in the varsity girls division at River Bluff Regional Park.

It’s the third WAC meet of the season. The conference championships takes place Oct. 25 at O’Neil Forebay.

The Spartans took fifth as a team, and sixth for varsity boys. Lilliana Rodriguez finished in 23rd place (27:13.4). Amani Vaye (19:47.3) and Adrian Vaye (19:48.8) took 25th and 26th, respectively.

Sheily Soto-Aguilar paced Lathrop’s lower-level teams, winning the frosh-soph girls race in 15:39.8.

 

JV volleyball

Ripon 2, Linden 0

The Indians held on for the 25-23, 25-20 win .

Kennedy Everhart netted six kills and seven digs. Addison Naranjo added four kills, two aces and seven digs. Jorie Eskes added four kills, three blocks and three aces.

Callie Grijalva chipped in four blocks, and Alayna Sprinkle produced 13 assists and four aces.
