ROUNDUP: Ripon tops Ripon Christian in TVL golf

Ripon’s Richie Hughes shot a four-overpar 58 Thursday to earn medalist honors and lead the Indians to first place in Trans-Valley League golf action at the par-27 St. Stanislaus Golf Course in Modesto.

Other Ripon finishers were Alan Buchien (third, 62), Andrew Bogetti (fourth, 63), Cru Sullivan (fourth, 63) and Vincent Uecker (seventh, 64).

Ripon earned the first-place honors at 310 and Ripon Christian was second at 336.


Baseball 

Lathrop 6, Grace Davis 5 

Lathrop (2-0 Western Athletic Conference, 4-6 overall) held off visiting Grace Davis (0-2, 6-4) for the one-run WAC win, sweeping Grace Davis in their two-game conference set and notching its third win in a row.

Lathrop’s Tommy Hammond belted a two-RBI double as part of the five-run fifth that gave Lathrop a 5-2 lead. Lathrop racked up nine hits and was led by Hammond (2 for 3, two RBI, double, run), Vaugh Sanchez (2 for 3, RBI, two runs), Nazir Jones (2 for 4, run), Ayden Louie (two RBI) and Jordan Blasé (RBI).

Rueben Lopez earned the win for Lathrop, giving up five runs and three runs while striking out seven and walking two in 6.2 innings.
