The Ripon softball team scored the first nine runs against Tokay but held on for a 14-12 non-league victory Tuesday at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton.
The host Tigers (3-4) trailed 9-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning before mounting their comeback. They got back into a nine-run hole in the sixth inning and responded with a seven-run rally.
Ripon (2-4) racked up 16 hits, only one of which went for multiple bases.
Mikayla Dietrich (three runs, three RBIs) and Chloe Lautenslager (three runs, two RBIs) both went 3 for 5. Addison Naranjo went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, a run and two steals. Clara Townsend (2 for 4, two runs), Alana Hernandez (2 for 5, run, RBI, two steals) and Addyson Wilmshurst (triple, two RBIs) also contributed to the hit parade.
Townsend was the winning pitcher, and Angelina Martinez threw the final 1 1/3 innings for the save.
Lathrop 11, Weston Ranch 1 (6)
Maci De Costa amassed 12 strikeouts and held the visiting Cougars (5-2) to three hits in the mercy-shortened win for Lathrop (2-2).
De Costa also anchored the attack, going 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, two runs and three RBIs. Luz DeLuna plated three runs in her 2-for-3 effort. Adriana Prado went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Tianna Gonzalez hit a triple and scored.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
East Union 3, Chavez 0
Gabe Etabillo produced five kills, four digs, four aces and 12 service points, as the Lancers (3-1) rolled 25-18, 25-9, 25-21 at Dalben Center.
Gabe Holguin contributed three kills, three blocks two aces and 13 service points. Marvin Menor had eight assists, two aces and eight points. Keenan Yang led the defense with 12 digs.
Manteca 3, Lodi 0
The Buffaloes (3-1) won the non-league home match 25-12, 25-19, 25-18 behind Jesus Gomez’s 16 kills.
Rob Hevener and Logan Romriell added seven kills each. Daylen Cheng had five kills. A.J. Solorio led Manteca from the service line.
BASEBALL
Edison 6, Lathrop 0
The Spartans (1-6) were shut out at home, getting just two hits apiece from Tommy Hammond and Nazir Jones (double).
Winning pitcher Santiago Moreno rung up nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Edison (3-2-1) hosts the series finale today.
Ripon 5, Kimball 2
The Indians (3-4) jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning and held off visiting Kimball (3-3) from there.
Sophomore Favian Nuno (five innings, eight strikeouts) and Hunter Weber (two innings) combined for the four hitter. Logan Spear highlighted the attack with a double, a run and two RBIs. Brayden McDowell and Joseph Molthen each drove in a run.
River Islands 25, Stockton Christian 4 (4)
The Riptide (6-1) totaled just eight hits but took advantage of 14 walks, four hit batters and six errors. They plated 15 runs in the third inning alone.
Noah Uribe hit a triple, plated four runs and drove in four others. Johnathan Guerrero scored three runs and had four RBIs. Devyn Kotecha had three runs and three RBIs.
George Dayeh pitched three innings for the win, striking out six.
JV boys volleyball
Manteca 2, Lodi 0
Manteca cruised to a 25-16, 25-19 win.
Adam Cuevas collected nine assists and eight service points. Dennen Loureiro was the Buffaloes’ kill leader.
