ROUNDUP: Ripon softball rolls to NorCal Classic title

Ripon wrapped up a dominant two-day campaign in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NorCal Leadoff Classic on Friday, capturing the “ACC” division championship at Legacy Fields in Tracy.

The Indians (15-7) outscored their four opponents, 51-2. They ended round-robin play Friday with an 11-0 win over Pacheco followed by a 16-0 shellacking of Gustine. The two games lasted a total of seven innings.

Angelina Martinez pitched a four-inning one-hitter, striking out seven while walking two. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in a pair of runs. Ava Hernandez contributed a triple and three RBIs to the onslaught. Alana Hernandez belted a double and scored three runs.

Alexandra Dubbs took the pitcher’s circle for the three-inning finale against Gustine. The senior struck out eight of the 10 batters she faced, giving up one hit.

A pair of freshmen helped spark the offense. Mikayla Dietrich went 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs. Savannah Chapman added two runs and three RBIs. Martinez drove in two runs.

Ripon wraps up the Trans Valley League season next Tuesday at Hughson with an outright share of its fifth consecutive title at stake.


Big 12

Vintage 6, Manteca 5

The championship game went to an international tiebreaker after it was tied at 3-3 through six innings. The Buffaloes (19-6) scratched across two runs in the top of the sixth to tie it and jumped ahead with two more in the seventh, but Vintage (13-4) of Napa responded with three in the bottom half.

Bella Cooper anchored the Manteca attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Maleiah Garza added a double, and Lauren Moncada hit a triple.


Manteca 8, Holt Academy 6

The Bobcats (10-9) of Stockton threatened to extend the semifinal in the top of the sixth inning, but their rally was capped at three runs.

Sienna Owen tagged a triple and scored twice in her 3-for-4 effort. Ayva Wilkins also legged out a triple, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jocelyn Baptist went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Freshman Emilee Lopez was the winning pitcher. Isabel Tonna got the final three outs for the save.


Big 10

East Union 5, Cosumnes Oaks 1

The Lancers (12-12) started their NorCal Classic run on a high note at Legacy Fields.

Savanna Lopez did much of the damage, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs scored and three driven in. Caliyah Lopez also went 3-for04, plating three runs while swiping four bags.

Winning pitcher Mikayla Simpson compiled 11 strikeouts, scattering six hits and walking none in her complete-game gem. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Wolfpack (5-9) from Elk Grove will get another shot at East Union this morning starting at 8:30 at the Tracy Sports Complex. The Lancers close with Argonaut at 12:30 p.m.


East Union 20, Lincoln 1 (3)

The Fighting Zebras (7-15) of Placer County scored their lone run in the top of the first inning, but East Union answered with 10 in the bottom half.

Leah Alstadt managed to stand out in a game that featured several productive hitters. The senior drove in seven runs and scored two, finishing 3-for-3 with two triples.

Simpson also went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs. Jacey Jauregui went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBIs. Casadee Hilberg added a double, a triple and four RBIs in a 2-for-3 effort. Savanna Lopez (triple, four runs) and Caliyah Lopez (2-for-4, two runs, two steals)were also in on the action.

Lily Pickering pitched all three innings, striking out five.


BASEBALL

Sierra 13, Mountain House 3 (6)

At Jack Thomson Stadium, Sierra (4-13 Valley Oak League, 7-17 overall) was able to salvage a win in an otherwise frustrating three-game series while snapping a six-game losing skid.

Pitcher Collins Schluer bounced back well after a rough first inning in which Mountain House (2-14, 6-19-1) scored all three of its runs. The Timberwolves immediately responded with four runs in the bottom half, and Schluer put the clamps on the Mustangs’ bats. He logged a complete game, striking out seven while surrendering just four hits and a walk.

Rudy Barney led Sierra’s attack, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Ryan Reyes went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Cameron Diego (run, RBI), Riley Kane (run) and Schluer (run, two RBIs) added two hits apiece.

Sierra caps the season next Thursday with a make-up game at VOL champion Central Catholic.


Ripon 4, Hilmar 2

The Indians (5-6 TVL, 10-12 overall) may have improved their chances at seizing an at-large postseason berth with the upset win over second-place Hilmar (8-3, 16-4).

Ripon scored two runs in each of the third and fourth innings and never trailed. Hunter Weber hit an RBI double and scored. Isaiah Martinez also had a run and an RBI.

Joseph Molthen picked up the win, scattering seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings.


Ripon Christian 10, Sonora 0 (6)

Jordan Luisi registered seven strikeouts in his two-hit shutout for host Ripon Christian (6-5, TVL, 13-9 overall), which won its seventh straight game. He also scored two runs and stole two bases on offense.

Stadtler Postma drove in three runs, while Tyler Wadlow (2-for-4), Maxx Anderson and Noah DeBruyn each had two RBIs.

The Knights close out the regular season with a make-up game next Thursday at Hilmar.
