Ripon’s resurgent boys soccer team evened its season record with a 3-1 comeback win at Orestimba on Friday.
The Indians (1-0-1 Trans-Valley League, 7-7-1 overall) have already matched their win total from last year.
Orestimba (1-1, 4-7-2) led at halftime, but it was all Ripon in the second half. Johan Padilla scored twice, and Richard Langfield had two assists. Bryan Machado contributed a goal, and Jonah Vargas notched an assist.
The Indians face neighboring rival Ripon Christian next Wednesday at RC.
GIRLS SOCCER
Ripon 7, Orestimba 1
Olivia Maragos registered a hat trick, and fellow senior captain Madelyn Reedy added a brace as the Indians (2-0, 6-3-2) rolled to the TVL win.
Jordyn Meeuwse and Starla Skiles contributed one goal apiece. Orestimba (0-2, 5-5-1) scored on its lone shot late in the game with the Indians’ reserves on the field.
Ripon also dominated the JV game, 8-0. The Indians host Ripon Christian next Wednesday.

Playing its first game in 14 days, the Knights (7-3-1) coasted for the non-league win in Modesto
It didn’t take long for them to gain control, as freshman Naomi Hendricks scored off an assist from Kate Van Groningen just four minutes in. The same duo combined to cap the final score in the second half, with Hendricks proving the service for Van Groningen.
Alyssa Hoffman scored RC’s second goal in the first half, tapping in a cross from Kara Koolhaas. Goalkeeper Savannah Hoekman got the shutout.
BOYS BASKETBALL
East Union 48, Oakdale 38
The Lancers (1-0, 9-6 overall) opened Valley Oak League play Thursday at Dalben Center with a big win over upstart Oakdale (0-1, 10-6).
Robby Espinosa paced them with 10 points, and Jackson Fay had eight.
East Union faces talented Mountain House (1-0, 8-7) back at home today starting at 3 p.m.
Ripon 64, El Capitan 49
In Merced, the Indians (7-8) earned a solid win in their final tune-up before starting TVL action. They mounted a 19-10 first-quarter lead that held up the rest of the way.
Tanner Hickman powered the hot start, scoring eight of his 11 points in the opening period. Marcus Madoski led all scorers with 22 points. Ethan Bauer and Logan Lefebvre added 16 and 15, respectively. Ripon had just the four players contribute points.
Elias Ruiz netted 13 points for the Gauchos (9-6).
Ripon begins its TVL schedule next Wednesday against visiting Hughson (8-6).
