ROUNDUP: Ripon falls to Gregori in Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic semifinal

Ripon’s boys basketball team showed well in a loss to one of the top teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section on Friday.

The Indians were downed by Gregori 67-61 in an Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic winners-bracket semifinal. The Jaguars (11-3), ranked No. 18 in the SJS by MaxPreps coming into the week, battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit and outscored Ripon in the fourth quarter (6-7), 23-15.

It was a showdown between two of the best stretch forwards in the region. Gregori was anchored by 6-foot-7 junior Jayson Powers, who drained five 3-pointers in the second half when he scored 21 of his 24 points.

Marcus Madoski fired 28 points for Ripon, 23 coming in the first half. Ethan Bauer helped pick up the slack in the second half, finishing with 18 points overall. Logan Lefebvre added 11.

The Indians had a three-game winning get snapped. They had won four of their last five.


Ripon Christian 73, Riverbank 35

Early 3-point shooting kept Riverbank (1-12) in the hunt early on, but the Knights (8-4) dominated the second quarter 23-8 to break away for the second blowout win in 10 days over their former Trans-Valley League rival. A 22-4 run in the third quarter put it well out of reach.

Amos Cady was an all-around spark for Ripon Christian, as he collected 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Jake Vander Veen added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Walker Postma had 16 points, five boards and two blocks. Chase Bunnell turned in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Adrian Montes led Riverbank with 14 points and knocked down four of his team’s five 3-point makes in the first half. The Bruins were held to eight or less points in each of the final three periods.

Ripon Christian faces Johansen (9-3) in the consolation final tonight at 5.


MC Holiday Hoop Classic

Amador Valley 55, Manteca 40

Manteca (5-8) led by a point at halftime, but the Dons (9-2) from Pleasanton found their shooting touch over the final last quarters. Amador Valley pulled away with a 14-6 fourth quarter and made five 3-pointers in the second half.

Johann Peringelil powered the Buffs with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jayden Scarver contributed 10 points. They take on Venture Academy (7-4) this morning at 9 back at Modesto Christian.


Junior varsity

Sierra 54, Lathrop 50

Ryan Alves buried five 3s and scored 19 points to help send the Timberwolves (7-3) to the consolation final of the Block M Tournament at Manteca High. They’ll face Gregori.

Isaac Kempf contributed with 14 points and six rebounds. Isaiah Revives scored 11 points, draining three 3s.


Freshman

Sierra 41, Lathrop 28

Sierra (6-7) gained separation with a 14-5 third quarter and rolled to the Block M Tournament consolation final. The Timberwolves play River Islands at 4 p.m. at Winter Gym.

Jack Taylor keyed the third-quarter burst by scoring six of his eight points. Kiral Tran tallied 10 of his 13 in the second half. Jaysen Martinez pulled down seven rebounds.
