ROUNDUP: Ripon clinches outright TVL softball title

Ripon’s fifth straight Trans Valley League championship will belong solely to the Indians after they fended off Hughson on the road Tuesday, 5-4.

They rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning to jump ahead for good in the regular-season finale.

Angelina Martinez went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, amassing 11 strikeouts for the win. She helped her cause with an RBI double.

Clara Townsend drove in a pair of runs, and Chloe Lautenslager went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Alana Hernandez contributed an RBI, and Abigail Stewart hit a double and plated a run.

Ripon (9-1 TVL, 16-7 overall) ends its regular season on a nine-game winning streak, while second-place Hughson (6-3, 13-8-1) has one more TVL contest remaining.


East Union 11, Sierra 0 (5)

The Lancers (4-7 Valley Oak League, 15-12 overall) won their sixth straight game after claiming a NorCal Leadoff Classic title over the weekend.

Mikayla Simpson (four innings, six strikeouts) was part of a mercy-shortened three-hitter, and she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on offense. Lily Pickering took the circle in the fifth, striking out all three batters she faced.

Caliyah Lopez (two runs, RBI, two steals) and Fallon Norman (double, two RBIs) both went 3-for-4. Leah Alstadt (two runs, RBI) and Jacey Jauregui (double, two RBIs) both went 2-for-4.


Oakdale 10, Manteca 8

Host Oakdale (6-5 VOL, 13-10 overall) plated nine of its runs in the first four innings and held on for the win.

Na’ima Calderon went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Manteca (7-4, 19-7). Sienna Owen finished 2-for-2 with two steals and a run. Ayva Wilkins scored three runs, drove in one and stole two bases.


BASEBALL

Lathrop 8, Pacheco 5

The Spartans (4-9, 7-15 overall) celebrated senior night with the Western Athletic Conference win.

Pacheco (5-8, 7-13) pounced first, scoring the first four runs of the game in the top of the third. Lathrop answered with five in the bottom half, and rallied again for three in the fifth to lead for good.

Seniors Jordan Blase (hit, run, RBI), Angel Sararan (2-for-3, run, RBI), Nazir Jones (2-for-3, double, run, two RBIs) and Carson Scott (RBI) all contributed to the win.

Sophomore Ayden Louie finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Freshman Vaughn Sanchez was the winning pitcher, after he gave up one unearned run on one hit and six walks against five strikeouts over 4 2/3 relief innings.
