ROUNDUP: Ripon Christian wins third straight girls basketball game

Reagan Van Der Hoek scored 22 points on Thursday, and the Ripon Christian girls basketball team shut out visiting Hughson in the third quarter on the way to a 36-20 victory.

The win is the third straight in Trans-Valley League play for the Knights (4-4, 8-9 overall).

Ripon Christian broke away from a 14-14 halftime deadlock with a 10-0 third quarter. Van Der Hoek anchored the second-half charge, accounting for 16 of her team’s 22 points on eight field goals.

Haley Kootstra, Cailyn Mouw and Addi Tenete contributed four points each.

Peyton Avila and Leah Hobby scored nine apiece for Hughson (1-7, 2-18).

Ripon Christian hosts first-place Ripon next Thursday.


BOYS BASKETBALL

Ripon Christian 63, Hughson 42

The visiting Knights (7-1 TVL, 18-5 overall) got their 6-foot-9 center going early.

Walker Postma scored eight points in the opening quarter, finishing with 20 to go with 12 rebounds and four blocks. E.J. Bruno was also a force in the interior, contributing eight points, 10 boards and two blocks.

Guard Amos Cady produced 17 points, including three 3s, six assists, four rebounds and three steals. Chase Bunnell had seven points and six boards.

Kasram Kang paced Hughson (1-7, 10-14) with 14 points.
