ROUNDUP: Ripon Christian Knights charge past Riverbank in non-league contest

Ripon Christian used 24-1 run in the second quarter to put the game away early Tuesday night as the Knights pummeled visiting Riverbank 71-24 in non-league basketball action.

Amos Cady paced Ripon Christian (7-3) with 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jake Vander Veen added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists; Walke Postma chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks with Mason Tameling (nine points, five assists, three rebounds) and Chase Bunnell (six points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals) rounding out the Knights attack.

Ripon Christian resumes play on Thursday, Dec. 26 at the Oakdale Rotary Tournament.


Girls basketball

Lincoln 56, East Union 37

The Trojans (7-3) of Stockton used a 20-5 third quarter to pull away from the visiting Lancers (7-4).

East Union’s Zyondupree Beasley posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, Ava Barrera just missed a doubledouble with nine points and 14 rebounds with Haven Stone adding 10 points “We have just wrapped up a tough portion of our schedule playing two Division 1 teams in Atwater and Lincoln,” Lancers coach Jim Agostini said. “Coming out of this part of our schedule we are OK with just trying to get through it and get prepared for league play.”

East Union will look to avenge a one-point

overtime loss to El Capitan earlier this season when the Lancers face the Gauchos to open the Tracy Breakfast Lions Tournament on Friday, Dec. 27, at 9 a.m.

Girls Soccer

Lathrop 5, Pacheco 1

Sarah Vivero notched a hat trick for the host Spartans (1-0 Western Athletic conference, 2-7 overall) to open WAC play.

Lathrop’s Allana Lewis and Jena Otero each added a goal.

The Spartans travel to Modesto on Thursday to face Grace Davis at the Mary Grogan Sports Complex at 6:15 p.m.

Lily Zaragoza posted a brace for the Spartans and Morgan Emery added a goal.


Boys soccer

Lathrop 0, Pacheco 0

Alan Hernandez, Andres Garcia and Carlos Santos controlled the tempo of the game defensively in the middle for the Spartans (0-0-1, 6-1-1).

“This was a very intense game between two playoff teams from last year,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “It felt like a playoff atmosphere.

“It was very, very competitive defensively. We know this league is going to be tough.”

The Jaguars (0-0-1, 3-3-3) possessed the ball well in the first half. The Spartans changed tactics

in the second half, controlling the tempo, but could not convert with five corner kicks to three for Pacheco.

Lathrop faces Grace Davis on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

Pacheco 3, Lathrop 1 With 20 minutes remaining the Spartans closed the gap to 2-1 but the Panthers iced the game in the closing minutes following a steal.

Elvis Rubio scored the Lathrop goal with an assist from Pablo Contreras.

Sierra 59 Golden Valley 55 The Timberwolves (6-2) trailed by 12 points in the first half and by six going into the third quarter.

Sierra’s Karanbir Bhandal scored all 17 of his points in the second half behind three 3-pointers.

Isaiah Revives added 11 points and Arsh Gosal 10, including two key baskets late in the game.
