ROUNDUP: Ripon Christian football game called early in romp of MC

 MODESTO — Ripon Christian rolled to a 50-0 non-league win over host Modesto Christian on Friday night in a contest that was called with 7 minutes, 20 seconds remaining in the third period.

Lushen Sanders (six carries, 26 yards) scored touchdowns on runs of 3 and 11 yards for the Knights (3-3) in their balanced attack. Blake Stuit (seven carries, 24 yards) added touchdowns on 1- and 8-yard runs, Ricky Van Unen (three carries, 31 yards) scored on a 12-yard run, Josh Miller (four carries, 59 yards) got the night’s scoring started on a 5-yard touchdown run and Landen Nolte finished the night’s scoring on his only carry for a 15-yard touchdown run.

Aaron Van Hofwegen paced the Ripon Christian defense with a safety and six tackles with EJ Bruno adding five stops. Isaiah Vander Woude made an interception with Chase Bunnell, Miller, Nick Varni, Stuit, Sergio Rubio and Matthew Chapman all contributing on defense.


FOOTBALL

Orestimba 10, Ripon 7

Trailing 10-0 going into the fourth quarter, the Indians (0-2 Trans-Valley League, 2-4 overall) got on the board with 11 minutes left in the game on a 9-yard run by Logan Lefebvre.

Late in the game with Ripon driving, the Mateo Navarro of the Warriors (2-1, 5-1) made an interception to seal the win for Orestimba.

The Warriors scored all of their points in the second period with a 34-yard field goal by Devon Bell and a 17-yard pass from Jacob Valenzuela to Dylan McCauley.


FLAG FOOTBALL

Sierra 32, Manteca 6

Two-way standout Janessa Barnes had another big game at Sierra’s Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium, where the Buffaloes (7-1, 14-5 overall) completed the home-and-home sweep on Thursday.

She amassed 123 yards and four touchdowns on 11 receptions, while picking off two passes on defense.

Quarterback Tessa Zalunardo completed 18 of 24 passes for 115 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Taylor Zalunardo added a touchdown catch and led the defense with five tackles and an interception.

Maitland Kohoutek contributed two picks, and Kiley O’Neill had one.

Manteca dropped to 4-2 in the VOL, 8-10 overall.


JV girls volleyball

East Union 2, Central Catholic 0

The Lancers earned the VOL sweep in Modesto on Thursday, improving to 7-1 in league behind Lulu Dayeh’s double-double. The setter led them with 13 assists and 10 digs.

Kennedy McLeon anchored the front row with five kills and four blocks. Taylor Rios contributed four kills. Elle Baluyut collected 22 digs. Emily Pires produced three kills and 16 digs.
