Ripon Christian’s boys volleyball team sixth secured the outright Trans Valley League boys volleyball championship on Wednesday with a dominant 25-15, 25-11, 25-12 win at Escalon.
It’s the sixth consecutive league title overall for the Knights (11-0 TVL, 22-9 overall, who previously campaigned in the Southern League.
Setter Danny Lambdin led them with 24 assists, three aces and two blocks. Outside hitter Mason Tameling added a team-best 14 kills to go with two aces. Isaiah Vander Woude contributed seven kills, four aces and three blocks. Ian Brown served six aces and had 10 digs.
Lathrop 3, Johansen 0
The Spartans (11-3, 24-8 overall) closed their successful regular season Wednesday, sweeping Johansen 25-8, 25-14, 25-9 in Modesto. They finished third in the Western Athletic Conference to earn an automatic postseason berth.
Gabriel Fa’ali’i torched the Vikings for 10 kills and nine aces. The junior outside hitter. now has a whopping 1,219 career kills.
Opposite Marco Palomares chipped in with three kills, three aces, three blocks and two digs. Marc Llorin added seven kills and two blocks. Meauta Miller had five kills, while Cameron Loyola and Gurmukh Singh had four apiece. Setter Jorge Reyes amassed 32 assists and three aces.
BASEBALL
Mountain House 14, Sierra 4 (5)
Host Mountain House (2-13, 6-18-1) assured itself the best-of-three series win, ending the Valley Oak League contest with a nine-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Sierra (3-13, 6-17) scored two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to close in, 5-4. Collins Schluer had an RBI double and plated a run on his only plate appearance. A.J. Chapman, Richie Cervantes and Wyatt Bauer each added an RBI.
The Timberwolves were limited to just six hits by Mustangs hurler Callahan Heely, who collected 11 strikeouts. Nicholas Torres powered the Mountain House attack with a double, a home run and four RBIs.

Ripon Christian 18, Sonora 6 (6)
Visiting Ripon Christian (5-5 TVL, 12-9 overall) opened with a five-run barrage and cruised to its sixth straight victory.
Noah DeBruyn led the Knights, going 2-for-3 with four runs and four RBIs. Trenton Cloward went 2-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs. He was also the winning pitcher, throwing the first 3 1/3 innings before getting relieved by Mateo Ceja. Tyler Wadlow finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Ricky Van Unen (run, RBI), Josh Crivello (two hits, two RBIs) and Talen Tameling (two hits, two runs, RBI, two steals) each belted a double.
Hilmar 7, Ripon 5
The visiting Indians (4-6 TVL, 9-12 overall) mounted a comeback in the seventh inning but came up short, scoring three runs.
Joseph Molthen and Landon Espinola each drove in a run for Ripon, while Logan Spear plated two. Bradley Chipponeri (five strikeouts, five hits allowed) pitched six innings and earned the win for Hilmar (8-2, 16-3).

Bryan Gamboa paced the Spartans with 13 kills. Dylan Beltran slapped down seven kills, and Elijah Munoz added one. All three had a block.
Setter Cayden Phaing amassed 25 assists to go with two kills and an ace. Christopher Ygay picked up six digs.
