ROUNDUP: RC, Lathrop golf teams qualify for SJS tourneys

Ripon Christian’s girls golf team qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament after narrowly edging out Ripon for third place in the Trans-Valley League Tournament held Monday at Micke Grove Golf Links.

The Knights netted a 420 score, four strokes better than Ripon. It was enough to get them over the hump in the season-long point standings, as Ripon Christian ended up with 32 points against 31 for the Indians.

League champion Hilmar and Escalon finished with 387 and 413 scores in the league finale, respectively. Ripon Christian joins them along with six individual qualifiers, including three Ripon players, in the divisional tourney next Monday, Oct. 28 at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club in Marysville.

Hughson took fifth (440) in the TVL tournament and was followed by Sonora (482) and Orestimba (568).

Ripon Christian’s Julia Van Groningen and Ripon’s Cameron Seefeldt carded 99s and tied for sixth individually. Hilmar teammates Lilly Garza (85) and Angelina Cruz (91) were the low medalist and runner-up, respectively. Escalon’s Elizabeth Allan (92) rounded out the top three.

Scoring contributions for Ripon Christian included Brittany Dugo (103), Ellie Kowes (105), Sophia Cheney (113) and Katie Thoming (120).

Ripon scorers were Cameron Seefeldt (103), Brynn Daley (108), Dylann Ballard (114) and Skylar Pimentel (115). The Pimentel sisters and Seefeldt are the local individual qualifiers.


Western Athletic Conference

Lathrop took third in the conference final on Tuesday, earning a spot to the SJS Division IV Tournament. The Spartans scored a 664 behind first-place Livingston (492) and runner-up Ceres (644).

Lathrop’s Ashley Abon came in 12th place individually with a 112. Kate Albisu (128), Yadira Hernandez (132), Madison Dash (140) and Kimberly Rivera Raudales (143) also scored for the Spartans.

Livingston’s Briana Sobrevilla (82), Aless Chavez (86) and Bella Raya (93) were the top three finishers.

The Division IV Tournament is next Monday at Mather Golf Course.


FLAG FOOTBALL

East Union 30, St. Mary’s 24

With the final week off in the VOL season, East Union (17-4) picked up a top non-league opponent to prepare for the upcoming SJS playoffs.

The Lancers defeated the Tri-City Athletic League champion Rams (20-5) at home. St. Mary’s is also the 11th ranked team in the SJS, according to MaxPreps. The two teams previously faced off in the Manteca Tournament on Aug. 24, with St. Mary’s rolling, 48-8.

Julianna Gaspar threw for four touchdowns. Caliyah Lopez caught one TD and added another rushing. Kaylee Mejia contributed a touchdown, as did Larissa Harries, who highlighted the defense with an interception.
