Drew Meester put away his first hat trick of the early season, and Ripon Christian’s boys soccer team notched a second straight shutout in a 4-0 non-league victory over visiting Bret Harte on Monday.
The Knights (2-0) led by a goal at halftime after Danny Lambdin jump started Meester’s productive outing with a corner-kick cross in the 18th minute.
Meester had his hat trick before the fifth minute of the second half and added one more goal contribution by assisting Colton Veldstra in the 59th. Jack Dooley added an assist in the 43rd minute. Ripon Christian outshot the Bullfrogs (0-2-1) from Angels Camp, 15-3.
Goalkeeper Josh Crivello had three saves. Defenders Joel Hendricks, Lushen Sanders, Aaron Van Hofwegen and Lambdin aided in keeping the sheet clean.
GIRLS SOCCER
Manteca 2, Grace Davis 1
The Buffaloes opener their season with a home victory, as Gina Hirle provided the deciding goal in the second half.
Grace Davis (1-2) took the early lead, and Gabriela Ramos buried the equalizer late in the first half.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
River Islands 56, Big Valley Christian 36
Veronica Erilim and Octavia Orndoff fired 14 and 13 points repetitively to pace the host Riptide (2-1).
Milyn Morales and freshman Kalina Rodrigues added eight apiece.
Lathrop 4, Bear Creek 1
Diego Alvarez scored a second-half brace, as the Spartans surged to the season-opening win.
Angel Barajas contributed a goal and an assist. Andres Garcia scored once. Lathrop led 2-0 at halftime but could have had a wider lead with its 18 overall shots on goal.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Atwater 59, Ripon 53
The visiting Indians (0-3) were limited to seven points in each of the first two quarters and trailed 33-14 at halftime but managed to make a game of it in the Atwater Showcase.
Marcus Madoski spearheaded the comeback charge, finishing with 22 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Gino Calderara chipped in with 13 points and four steals. Logan Lefebvre added nine points.
Ali Banks Jr. and Peter Isialu led Atwater (2-0) with 11 points each.

Bear Creek 2, Lathrop 1
Pablo Contreras scored the lone goal for Lathrop. Mario Luna provided the assist.
Girls frosh basketball
Ponderosa 42, Lathrop 22
Ishann Singh handled the scoring load for Lathrop with 11 points. Ianiyah Stroud-Prince turned in seven.
