Manteca’s Ethan Freitas finished with an even-par 72 Wednesday at Creekside Golf Course, placing third in the fourth Valley Oak League boys golf tournament of the season.
First-place team Oakdale had the top two individuals in Estuardo Duque (66) and Nolan Harris (69). The Mustangs totaled a 382, with Central Catholic (414) ending as the runner-up.
Sierra led local schools with a 442, good for fourth place. Jake Llamas Mojarro (85), Carson Murray (86), Jorrden Llamas Mojarro (87), Jace Neto (89) and Payton Roberton (95) were the Timberwolves’ top five.
Contributing to Manteca’s 445 were Gael Juarez (96), Cooper Chamberlain (87), Sebastian Cabrales (97) and Logan Pool (103).
Michael Pires paced East Union (454) with an 82. Chipping in to the team’s score were Cody Camarena (85), Tiago Chadinha (91), Xavier Guerrera (92) and Chase Kalin (104).
Trans Valley League
Ripon outscored Ripon Christian 403-420 to win TVL Tournament No. 7 Thursday at Turlock Golf & Country Club.
The Indians were led by Vincent Uecker’s 78, and 79s each from Richie Hughes and Andrew Bogetti. Alan Bunchien added an 81, and Sam Stewart an 86.
Western Athletic Conference
Season-leading Lathrop had its WAC tournament streak end at four, as Livingston outpointed the Spartans 462-472 Thursday at Creekside Golf Course.
Sophomore Brayden Beckham kept his personal streak alive, however, earning medalist honors with a 7-over 79. He has won all six WAC tournaments, so far.
Jayden Wall contributed with an 89, Jared Isla a 90, Ashneil Jeet a 105 and Jasjeet Batthal a 109.
BOYS TENNIS
Sierra 8, Lathrop 1
The Timberwolves (13-3) won the non-league match, as they tuned up for postseason play.
Lathrop made several of the singles matches competitive, however. Sierra’s Ashton Hillard held off Aram Baltazar 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 2 singles, while No. 6 Ryan Alves outlasted Agam Singh, 6-4, 7-6. The Spartans got their lone win from No. 4 Vincent Jiang, who swept Santiago Franco, 6-3, 6-1.
Brady Alves won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1 over Eli Poklay. No. 3 Oliver Naven (6-4, 6-1) and No. 5 Harshith Kumar (6-2, 6-1) also took care of business.
Winning doubles teams were Hasnain Ali/Sid Gopendran (6-0, 6-2), Zain Ali/Alex Rey Rosario (6-0, 6-4) and Noah Brum/Himmat Dosanjh (6-0, 6-0).
SOFTBALL
Manteca 13, Sierra 0 (5)
Jocelyn Baptist and Sienna Owen both went 3-for-4 to highlight Manteca’s 15-hit attack on Thursday, and Isabel Tonna pitched four scoreless innings.
Owen stole three bases and plated a pair of runs. Baptist scored twice and drove in one run. Alesia Harris added two RBIs, and Bella Cooper had an RBI double.
Tonna rung up six strikeouts against one walk in her start in the pitcher’s circle. Freshman Emilee Lopez gave up a hit in the fifth but struck out the side.
The Buffaloes (7-2 VOL, 16-4 overall) host first-place Central Catholic next Tuesday.
Central Catholic 11, East Union 4
The visiting Raiders (10-0 VOL, 18-4 overall) Northgate Softball Complex opened with a seven-run rally and didn’t look back.
East Union (2-7, 9-12) did not go away quietly, plating a run in the third and three in the fourth. Savanna Lopez hit 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs. Caliyah Lopez went 2-for-4 with a run, and Leah Altstadt knocked in two runs.
Ripon 18, Hilmar 2 (5)
At Hilmar (3-4, 9-9 overall), the TVL-leading Indians (7-1, 10-7) amassed eight runs in the first inning and led 17-0 after the top of the fourth inning.
Clara Townsend (double, two runs), Izabelle Spurzem (two doubles, three runs, three RBIs) and Abigail Stewart (two runs, two RBIs) all went 3-for-4 in the onslaught. Pitcher Angelina Martinez (2-for-4, four RBIs) and Mikayla Dietrich (two runs, three RBIs) each hit a home run. Addison Naranjo contributed triple, three runs and two RBIs, finishing 2-for-3.
BASEBALL
Beyer 4, Lathrop 3
In Modesto, Lathrop (3-9 WAC, 5-15 overall) dropped a second one-run loss to Beyer in three days. An error in the bottom of the seventh inning helped the Patriots (8-4, 11-6) avoid the upset.
Rueben Lopez pitched 6 2/3 solid innings for the Spartans, scattering six hits. Santino Arranaga, Josue Nerio and Carson Scott each drove in a run, while Andrew Chunn roped two hits.
Oakdale 8, East Union 4
Visiting East Union (7-8 VOL, 13-12 overall) jumped ahead at the outset with two runs, but gave up eight unanswered, as Oakdale (13-5, 16-9) completed the three-game sweep.
Brayden Camara drove in two of the Lancers’ runs, and Joe Alvarez went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Peyton Heath and Jackson Fay each scored twice.
Patterson 3, Sierra 2 (12)
The host Timberwolves (3-11, 6-15 overall) took another tough defeat, this time in extra innings.
Collins Schluer did all he could from the pitcher’s mound, where he struck out seven and gave up one run on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. Riley Kane pitched the final five innings in relief.
Rudy Barney did most of the damage offensively for Sierra, going 2-for-6 with a double, a run and an RBI. Ricardo Anaya plated the Timberwolves’ other run, Cameron Diego hit a triple and Kane added an RBI.
BOYS TRACK
Ripon 100, Escalon 36
The Indians dominated the TVL double dual meet at Escalon on Wednesday. Sprinter Nathan Gaines led them with wins in the 100, 200 and 4x100.
Isaiah Green (1,600, 3,200) and Marcus Madoski (400, high jump) each won two individual events. Tanner Hickman (110 hurdles), Ryan Bell (shot put), Rickey Langenfeld (pole vault), Jackson Everhart (long jump) and Jude Viss (triple jump) each won once.
Oakdale 89, Sierra 52
Oakdale got first place in all but four events in the VOL meet Thursday at Sierra’s Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.
Gael Reynoso paced the Timberwolves with first-place points in the 400 and 4x400. Nathan Perez won the 200, and Mantoj Grewal the 300 hurdles.
GIRLS TRACK
Ripon 91, Escalon 45
Starla Skiles was the biggest points contributor for Ripon, taking first in both hurdle events while helping the Indians take both relays.
Clara Schoolland won the 400, high jump and was on the 4x400 relay. Mallory Govia took care of the two distance events, and Kyla Agbayani-Duenas won the 800. Ellana Parenti placed first in the long jump. Emily Paxton triumphed in the triple jump and was on the winning 4x400 and 4x100 relays.
Ripon Christian was also part of the TVL double-dual meet. Christiana Lambdin was the overall top performer in the discus throw. Reagan Van Der Hoek was second in the long jump.
Oakdale 68, Sierra 35
The Timberwolves mustered most of their points on the track, with Anna Ditman winning the 1,600 and 3,200.
Anayah Wills (100, 4x100), Janessa Barnes (200, 4x400), and freshman Khamylle Bollengier (400, 4x400) made their contributions in the sprints.
