There was no movement in the Valley Oak League soccer standings Wednesday, as all three contests resulted in draws.

Manteca held on for a 1-1 finish with visiting Oakdale in a battle for the top spot.

Kyndra Obermeyer landed the first blow for Oakdale (2-0-2 VOL, 10-0-2 overall) late in the first half. Minutes later, the Buffaloes (2-0-1, 15-1-2) responded with a header from Cami Silva who redirected Corrine Jones’ corner-kick cross.

The Mustangs had 10-8 edge on shots on goal.

“Definitely wasn’t our best effort,” Manteca coach Justin Coenenberg said. “Just seemed a little off tonight. Oakdale did a good job of putting pressure on us, but we weren’t the same team we were the first 15 or so games this year. We’ll just have to regroup and get back at it in practice tomorrow to get ready for Sierra. They’ll have our full attention on Friday.”

East Union 4, Kimball 4

It was a back-and-forth struggle at Kimball’s Don Nichelson Stadium, where the Lancers (0-2-2 VOL, 3-9-4 overall) rallied for three second-half goals to secure the point.

Kaylee Mejia gave East Union the lead, but Kimball (2-0-1, 4-1-3) was able to tie it for good with a late goal. Gabrielle McIntosh contributed a goal and an assist. Giselle Hamilton and Jenna Campbell each added a goal. Chloe Silva had two assists, and Chelsea Keathley contributed one.

“This was definitely one of our better games,” EU coach Jason Silva said. “The intensity was there, the girls played with confidence and fought for every ball. We moved the ball a lot better and were able to create opportunities, something we’ve been lacking. This game definitely gives us a lot to build on, as we prepare for Central Catholic on Friday.”

Sierra 1, Central Catholic 1

Reigning VOL MVP Jocelin Roa made her season debut Wednesday and put away the lone goal for visiting Sierra (1-2-1, 8-6-1). Lindsey Rose provided the assist.

The Timberwolves’ were unable to build on their halftime lead despite firing 22 shots, 13 on goal. Goalkeeper Annika Beall finished with six saves, while Elysia Lepe racked up 14 for Central Catholic (0-3-1, 5-6-2).

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 1

The Spartans (3-3-3, 6-8-3 overall) notched a much-needed Western Athletic Conference victory at Bennie Gatto Field.

“It’s always a great feeling to play at home, and our girls were loving it, too,” Lathrop coach Diana Nevarez said. “We came out of the gate strong and out two in the back of the net.”

BOYS BASKETBALL

East Union 67, Oakdale 31

Nine different players scored for the Lancers (3-1 VOL, 14-7 overall), who were spearheaded by Dylan Lee’s 16 points and six assists at Dalben Center.

Alex Cuevas had 14 points, and Ian Metcalf collected 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ahead 34-17 at halftime, East Union put it away with a 24-6 fourth quarter.

“Really great defensive intensity,” EU coach Dutch Ell said. “We played to our identity, bought in, and played some pretty selfless basketball tonight.”

Central Catholic 65, Sierra 33

T.P. Wentworth netted 22 points for the host Raiders (3-1 VOL, 12-7 overall), while Malachi Miller had 14.

Semaj Moore and Daniel Rushing led Sierra (0-4, 9-10) with eight and six, respectively. Central Catholic also won the JV game, 38-28.

The Timberwolves’ dominant effort included braces from Jessica Miranda, Maitland Kohoutek and Yareli Cervantes.

Lathrop 4, Pacheco 1

Ariana Garcia produced a hat trick, and Diana Hernandez added a goal for good measure. The Spartans improved to 7-1-0 in the WAC, 11-3-0 overall.
