ROUNDUP: Manteca baseball caps dominant sweep of Weston Ranch

Manteca’s baseball team completed a one-sided sweep of Weston Ranch on Thursday, winning the home game 15-0 in five innings.

The Buffaloes (2-0, 6-6 overall) outscored the Cougars (0-2, 4-8) in thire Valley Oak League-opening series this week, 22-0.

“We came out very unmotivated,” Weston Ranch coach David Hager said. “We did not have the necessary energy to compete in a VOL game. Very disappointed in our effort and not to show what we are capable of.”

Dylan DePrater (three innings, win, three strikeouts) and Alex Murrietta (two innings, four strikeouts) combined for the one-hitter.

Emiliano Cruz starred offensively, going 4 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs, a double and a triple. Rex Watson plated two runs and drove in two others. Manteca amassed eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the mercy rule in play.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Ripon Christian 3, Manteca 1

Host Manteca (4-5) gave the unbeaten Knights (14-0) some trouble but ultimately fell short, 25-21, 17-25, 19-25, 24-26.

Micah Crawford and Angel Rodriguez rapped 11 and 10 kills for the Buffaloes, respectively. Nick Grabowski contributed eight kills and three blocks. Jon Rojas added 21 assists and three aces. The Buffs begin VOL play next Tuesday against visiting Kimball.

 

BOYS GOLF

Lathrop 276, Millennium 318

Lathrop’s John Wall Jr. was low medalist of the Western Athletic Conference dual match with a 47 Wednesday at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Kevin Rodriguez was the runner-up with a 54. Christopher Subia (57), Jayden Wall (58) and Matthew Hammond (60) were the Spartans’ other scorers.

 

Ripon Christian 180, Denair 56

Wyatt Hayes finished 2-over-par 33, and Camdan Indelicato added a 34 in the Knights Southern Athletic League victory.

Ethan Schenk and Trey Van Groningen each added a 37. Nick te Velde posted a 39.

 

TVL Tournament No. 2

Ripon was the top team for a second straight week, posting a 415 score at La Contenta Golf Course. Escalon was the only other team to finish sub-500 with a 470.

Low medalist Chad Flory turned in an impressive 3-under 69, 12 strokes better than runner-up and fellow Indian Trent Vink. Jacob Baird contributed an 84 for Ripon, Jeremie Little scored a 90 and Evan McKeon a 91.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Sierra 5, Kimball 4

The Timberwolves squeaked out a close VOL win at home.

Keying the victory was No. 2 David Nasser, who overcame Javon Patanisamn, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Other singles winners for Sierra are No. 1 Brady Alves (6-0, 6-1) and No. 4 Matia Rajetheman (7-6, 6-1).

In doubles Darrin Rojas and Hasnain Ali combined for a 6-4, 6-0 win as the No. 1 pairing. No. 3 Kyle Madrigal and Tristan Flores prevailed, 6-4, 6-1.

 

JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, Ripon Christian 0

The Buffaloes held on to sweep, 28-26, 25-16.

Fernandez Lopez collected 16 assists. Johan Peringelil and Christian Cardoza each had six kills.
