ROUNDUP: Madoski sets new RHS high jump record at TVL Relays

The Ripon High varsity boys track and field team won the Trans Valley League Relays hosted by Escalon on Wednesday and was highlighted by a record-setting effort from Marcus Madoski.

The senior ran away with the meet title in the high jump, landing a 6-foot-8 mark that stands as a new school record. It’s the second best high jump mark of the season in the Sac-Joaquin Section and third best in the state.

Madoski was part of the winning 4x400 relay with Ricky Langenfeld, Christian Peoples and Logan Lefebvre. They clocked in at 3 minutes, 38.29 seconds. Lefebvre also enjoyed some individual success, winning the long jump with a personal record 20-6.

As a team, Ripon scored 154.25 points with runner-up Hughson tallying 127. Ripon’s girls took second with 104.5 points behind Hilmar’s 118.5. Ripon also took second in both the boys and girls open divisions.

Ripon’s varsity boys were also anchored by the shot-put quartet of Daniel Lopez (43-5 ¼), Wyatt Swift (42-6 ½), Ryan Bell (41-8 ¾) and Gustavo Nungaray (38-4 ¼), who placed 1-4.

Eric Guevara won the pole vault with a 12-6.

The varsity girls were paced by Clara Schoolland, who won the high jump (5-2) and was on the winning 4x400 (4:20.05) and sprint medley 800 relays (1:57.86).

Hurdling standout Starla Skiles was on four first-place relays: 4x100 (50.14), 4x400, shuttle hurdles (33.83) and mixed 4x200.

Also featured on winning relays: Rylee Agbayani-Duenas (4x100, SMR 800), Emily Paxton (4x100, 4x400), Olivia Maragos (4x100, SMR 800), Olivia Ellis (4x400, SMR 800, mixed 4x200), Ellena Parenti (shuttle hurdles), Ava Galvan (shuttle hurdles), Cheyann Roberts (shuttle hurdles), Michael Evans (mixed 4x200) and Nathan Gaines (mixed 4x200).


BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Manteca 75, Oakdale 64

The Buffaloes opened their Valley Oak League dual schedule Thursday with a close win at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Jayden Scarver helped put them over the jump with wins in the 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x400. Oscar Angel won the 1,600 and 3,200 and joined Scarver on the winning mile relay.

Joseph Habibi won the 100 with a personal record 11.10, took second in the 200 and was on the 4x100. William Brown won the 300 hurdles and was on both relays. Josh Mellion (shot put, discus) and Tyler Watkins (high jump, triple jump) were double winners in field events.


Sierra 100, Central Catholic 33

Sierra overwhelmed the Raiders with depth at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.

Christian Gonzalez was among the standouts with personal record times in winning the 400 (54.87) and 3,200 (9:59.26). Mantoj Grewal won both hurdle events.

Others contributing first-place points: Landen Nabb (800, 4x800), 4x400, Teagan Nazzisi (shot put), Asaad Doby (discus), Mirwais Fazli (high jump), Zak Willson (pole vault) and Evan Greenwood (triple jump).


GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Oakdale 106, Manteca 34

Rylan Steckler set a personal record with a 10-3 pole vault for Manteca. She also took first in the jump.

Camila Torres PR’d in winning the 200 (27.67). Jordyn Hegarty won the two-mile run.


Sierra 99, Central Catholic 29

Anayah Wills was Sierra’s big points producer with wins in the 100, 200 and 4x100. Anna Dittman was another individual double winner (800, 1,600).

Other key contributors for the Timberwolves: Janessa Barnes (400, 4x400), Kristella Harnden-Muratalla (100 hurdles), Mia Ona (pole vault), Olivia Knott (long jump), Margeil Garcia (triple jump, 4x100) and the 4x400 relay.


BOYS GOLF

TVL Tournament 3

Ripon continued its streak of tournament wins in the TVL on Thursday, winning the third 18-hole league event of the season at Teleli Golf Club in Sonora despite missing one of its top players.

The Indians totaled 373 strokes while holding off Ripon Christian (387). They had two players finish under par, with freshman Andrew Bogetti turning in a 70 and Vincent Uecker a 71.

Alan Bunchien (73) and Richie Hughes (74) came up just shy of par, and Ivan Castillo rounded out Ripon’s score with a solid 85. The Indians were without Cru Sullivan.

Trey Van Groningen carded a 70 for Ripon Christian. He was 4-under par after 11 holes. Matthew Ubick contributed an even 72, Hudson Schenk had a 73, Ben Miller an 82 and Carter Van Groningen a 90.


WAC Tournament 2

Lathrop won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Creekside Golf Course on Thursday and was spearheaded by sophomore Brayden Beckman, who was low medalist with 6-over 78.

Jayden Wall produced an 89 and was followed by Jared Isla (103), Ariyan Patel (103) and Raphael Iniguez (105).


BOYS TENNIS

Sierra 9, East Union 0

The Timberwolves (6-1, 7-2 overall) began the second half of their VOL schedule Thursday with a lopsided win.

Singles winners were Brady Alves (6-0, 6-1), Ashton Hillard (6-1, 6-0), Oliver Naven (6-2, 6-1), Santiago Franco (6-1, 6-1), Harshith Kumar (6-0, 6-0) and Ryan Alves (6-0, 6-0).

Winning doubles: Sparsh Beedi/Hasnain Ali (6-0, 6-1), Sid Gopendran/Zain Ali (6-2, 6-2) and Alex Rey Rosario/Noah Brum (6-1, 6-0).


SOFTBALL

Ripon 7, Escalon 0

Angelina Martinez fired 10 strikeouts while giving up three walks in her three-hit shutout at Escalon (0-1 TVL, 3-7 overall) on Thursday.

Alana Hernandez highlighted the Ripon (2-0, 5-5) attack with a two-run homer. Izabelle Spurzem contributed two RBIs, and Addison Naranjo went 4 for 4 with a triple, two steals, two runs and an RBI.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

East Union 3, Oakdale 0

The Lancers (2-1, 6-3 overall) swept the VOL match on Wednesday, 25-17, 25-12, 25-17.

Keenan Yang led the way with 10 digs, five assists and seven service points. Gabriel Holguin anchored the front row with eight kills and four blocks. Isaac Serrato served 10 points and three aces to go with 10 assists. Heron David also had 10 service points with three kills and two digs.


BASEBALL

Ceres 16, Lathrop 0 (5)

The host Bulldogs (4-0, 10-3 overall) doled out 17 hits in the lopsided WAC contest.

Vaughn Sanchez, Angel Sararan and Nazir Jones each had a hit for Lathrop (2-2, 4-8).
