ROUNDUP: Lathrop flag football locks down Grace Davis in 2nd straight shutout win

Lathrop’s flag football team recorded a second straight shutout and its fourth of the season Wednesday when it waxed visiting Grace Davis 34-0 in a Western Athletic Conference tilt.

Dayanna Martinez anchored the defense with three tackles, six pass breakups and an interception.

Faith Allen highlighted the attack, catching seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Kianna Quintero scored twice, and Aliyah Thompson netted 45 yards and a TD.

Lathrop also had an efficient day from its quarterback triumvirate of Stephanie Lopez (89 yards, TD), Abby Renteria (95 yards, two touchdowns) and Luz De Luna (111 yards, TD).

The Spartans (2-0 WAC, 7-1 overall) next travel to Ceres on Monday.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Grace Davis 0

In Modesto, Lathrop (2-0 WAC, 5-3) swept 25-20, 25-15, 25-15 behind Elizabeth Andrade’s 12 kills, three aces and seven digs.

Ayden Petroff fired five aces and two kills to go with her 16 assists. Justine Mabutas netted 14 digs and four aces. Erin Chunn, Shakara Porter and Annabelle Obasuyi chipped in two kills apiece.


CROSS COUNTRY

WAC meet No. 1

Jacqueline Pena Santillan of Lathrop came in third place in 22 minutes, 35.82 seconds in the WAC opener held at River Bluff Regional Park.

The Spartans’ varsity girls took fourth in the team standings. Livingston won the girls race, while Beyer dominated en route to winning varsity boys.

Riley Gier paced the Lathrop boys with a 14th-place finish in 18:35.95. The Spartans placed fifth as a team.

Quarterback Morgan Hegler threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 30 more yards and another score.

Citali Lopez was targeted three times and hauled in all three passes, finishing with 73 yards and a TD. Cassidy Rudd also contributed a touchdown reception.

Juliana Carillo compiled six tackles, a pass deflection and an interception.


JV girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0

The Spartans held on to complete the 25-15, 25-23 sweep.

They did much of their damage from the service line, as Hazel Beltran registered six aces, while Araya Carson and Brianna Valencia had five each. Valencia also tallied three kills and two digs.

Sarah Garcia added 11 digs and three aces. Vivianna Salcedo handed out six assists.


Frosh girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0

Cassidy Fa’ali’i posted eight assists and four aces, as Lathrop rolled to the 25-12, 25-20 victory.

Alexza Bringas chipped in five aces, three assists and two digs. Aylin Reyes led the defense with eight digs.

Offensively, Audrina Fisher (three aces) and Arianna Rodriguez drilled three kills apiece. Andrea Lemus added two kills and three digs.
