East Union had two individuals finish among the top five in the third Valley Oak League Tournament of the season on Monday.
Michael Pires carded the third best score with a 5-over-par 77, while fellow Lancer Cody Camarena finished tied for fourth with a 79 at Tracy Golf & Country Club. As a team, East Union topped Manteca Unified schools with a 442 score, good for fourth overall.
Oakdale is 3-for-3 on tournament wins, netting a 395 behind medalist Estuardo Duque’s 2-under 70. teammate Owen Hauselmann was the runner-up with a 72.
Central Catholic (395) and Mountain House (437) ended second and third, respectively.
Tiago Chadinha and Xavier Guerrero each contributed a 93 for East Union, and Chase Kalin added a 100.
Fifth-place Sierra (454) had a pair of 89s from Jorrden Llamas Mojarro and Jace Neto. Jake Llamas Mojarro (90), Carson Murray (92) and Jakob O’Neill (94) were the rest of the Timberwolves’ scorers.
Ethan Freitas paced Manteca (464) with an 85. Cooper Chamberlain followed with an 89, ahead of Sebastian Cabrales (90), Logan Pool (98) and Gael Juarez (102).
The next VOL tournament is set for next Wednesday, April 16 at Creekside Golf Course in Modesto.
Trans Valley League Tournament
Ripon got back on track after having its streak of TVL tournament victories snapped last week.
On Monday, the Indians scored a 409 at Oakdale Golf & Country Club for first place in the sixth league tournament of the season. Hughson (472) edged out Ripon Christian (473) for second.
Andrew Bogetti led Ripon with a 4-over 76. Alan Bunchien and Vincent Uecker each shot an 81. Richie Hughes (84) and Ivan Castillo (87) capped the Indians’ score.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Manteca 3, Central Catholic 0
The VOL’s top squad made quick work of visiting Central Catholic, 25-8, 25-10, 25-16.
Mark Bondoc led the Buffaloes (8-0, 16-6 overall) with 36 assists and seven aces. Logan Romriell racked up eight kills, Rob Hevener had six and Dennen Loureiro chipped in with five.
Lathrop 3, Downey 2
The Spartans (20-6) were tested in the non-league home match, holding off Downey (12-7), 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 15-11.
Gabriel Fa’ali’i anchored Lathrop with 22 kills, two solo blocks and seven digs. Meauta Miller amassed 14 kills and three blocks. Cameron Loyola blasted 10 kills, while Marc Llorin had four to go with three solo stuffs.
Jorge Reyes distributed 45 assists and served five aces. Edmund Balugo contributed eight digs.
BASEBALL
East Union 7, Mountain House 4
At Agostini Field, Blake Mount drove in three runs, and Efren Diaz pitched a complete to for the Lancers (5-5 VOL, 11-9 overall).
Kirk Simoni went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Peyton Heath finished 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Jackson Fay contributed a 2-for-4 effort that included a double, three steals and two runs.
Sierra 4, Weston Ranch 1
With a week off from VOL play, the Timberwolves (6-11) took care of their former league foe on the road.
Cole Martin (four innings) and Anthony Chapman Jr. (three innings) combined for a two-hitter struck out four apiece. Richie Cervantes and Brody Kossart each drove in a run, while Josh Graves plated two.
JV boys volleyball
Lathrop 2, Downey 0
Lathrop took care of business, 25-17, 25-15.
Bryan Gamboa spearheaded the Spartans with 11 kills, and Jayden White had four. Cayden Phaing registered 16 assists and two aces. Christopher Ygay picked up five digs.
